I just listened to two of their albums and i am stunned, people have been telling me to hear them for ages cos i love radiohead, and i just did! i will have to listen to them again before making any more opinions on them, it's quite soundscapey, but with dirty drums that work really well. i love it! anyone else? Jaz
oook i think i'm the only person to have heard them.... they're like, radioheads main influence at the moment.
I think its beautiful music. I feel like I'm in Iceland when I hear it. Very emotional. also try Mogwai
ahhh yeah i LOVE mogwai, i've never had a lot of their music but it is fantastic the stuff i have got....
you should also listen to the canadian band "God Speed You Black Emperor" a little different but its like orchestrated rock. but Very emotional.
ah ok, you posted agaiN! i adore Pink Floyd, i love all the albums execpt Dark Side of the Moon and Momentary Lapse of Reason, because they're just commercial and silly. My favourite Pink Floyd era is the bit just after Meddle, where they were still weird and experimental, and they filmed "Live at Pompeii", which is my favourite DVD of all time! i think Van Der Graaf Generator totally rock too, and Genesis, but everything before Phil Collins decided he was going to sing.... Jaz
hehe that was weird, and cool! i don't know much interpol, apart from their dress sense! i heard the new track but i can't remember anything about it....in my books thats not a good start...
yeah i agree pink floyd was very poignant. but i have to disagree with dark side being commercial. i think it is just a great concept album. i dunno i just really really like it. i havn't heard Van Der Graaf Generator. I don't know much about genesis. although i probably would have to agree about the phil collins thing. heh heh..
i'm also HEAVILY into everything Miles Davis ever did, i just think he was so totally ahead of everything else and amazing and fantastic and so cool. i love every era he went through, right until the end. I love the albums Bitches Brew and Big Fun the most though, with Kind of Blue and The Complete Concert in close second! if you haven't heard the complete Miles Davis, then give him a listen!
not sure which track they released on radio because stations around here, in ohio SUCK horribly. but the first track on antics is pretty catchy. i was turned off by that just because i'm cynical. but really, after a few listens i think that they do have real talent to make more music n they arn't just rehashing the first album.
yah know i've always ment to buy a miles cd. i'll take your advice and check him out. i should if i'm any decent kind of music fan.
(if you read our convo it's really really weird cos it's all in the wrong order!) I dunno....i listened to dark side again today, and it's a good album, it's just, really normal....compared to everything they did before it. it's not very long, either. there are some good bits on it, like Us and Them, but i don't think any of the tracks progress in the way they would have let them 5 years earlier... oh well, each to his own i guess. Van Der Graaf Generator were a nutty progressive rock group who split and reformed seven times, they were amazing, with hammond organs and screaming saxes everywhere! totally mindblowing.
yeah, Kind of Blue is the definitive Miles album, every self respecting jazz fan should have that, it kinda wrote the rules for jazz, ya know? with modal scales and just amazing improvisations. you can get a release that has the unreleased take of "Flamenco Sketches" too, which is better than the original! Then, i'd say, buy the complete concert cos thats just amazing. if you're feeling experimental, get Bitches Brew and Sketches of Spain! He did that with Gil Evans orchestra!
