    I'm a NY State resident.

    The summer:

Typically really humid, temperatures ranging from the high 60's to the low 90s. Not too much rain, but certainly enough when a front comes through. Soil is rich, and relatively hard.

    The fall:

Temperatures drop to 70s and 60's. Humidity a little less intense. More rainfall.

Can I expect a plant to grow and produce, assuming that I germinate properly and grow it indoors until it's big enough?

Absolutely. Good luck, and may your green thumb stay strong!

First step: buy a book on the subject

if your doing it outdoors which it sounds like you are its the wrong time of year to be planting.
if you already have plants in the works do some reading up before you switch from indor to outdoor.
