Does it bother you just a little when the US "still" labels itself the best country?

The key word is "still".America still calls itself the best country in the world.The US "used" to rank among the the top ten.Then I compare the US to countries in Western Europe,Australia and so on,I'd rank the US around number 30 now.I find it arrogant and at the same time stupid that that a country that in some ways has more in common with third world nations calls itself the best.

 

Well for one there's alot of Pride. For number two, the USA gov likes to keep it's peoples' spirits up for more than one reason. But I mean honestly, there are ALOT of good thins in your country. I for one, love it. Theres just some kinks that need to be worked out. (To put it mildly).

 

Oh yeah there are a number of good things about America,but I can candidly say after having traveled extensively and also having a second residence in the UK,the US certainly does NOT deserve the label of number one country in the world.

 

But the thing is, the world knows that already Only a minority of citizens of America and maybe the world dont know that. Its plain to see.

 

Cate very true ! The problem is there are still to many ignorant Americans that still don't get it.

 

I think the problem is, the US IS the best country in the world for x amount of people.
But that is the same for most countries.
To be "the best" it needs to take along as many people as possible and allow the majority of people to have access to the "the best".
Be that, education health care and a good standard of living etc.
So, given this, the UK is the best country in the world.
(Not that I'm prejudiced or anything)

To answer your question, yes, it does bother me, because quite evidently the US is not the best country in the world.
From its shit health care system, lax adherence to human rights, the death penalty, and poverty that it really should be ashamed of.
This, and it being able to correct all these issues, in a heartbeat...but does it?
Does it fuck.

 

Odon I agree with you 100%. America used to care more about these things.But nowadays America just cares about its richest citizens,and little else.And yes America should be ashamed of itself.The world used to look up at the US in many ways,now the"so-called" best country has become the laughing stock of the free world.

 

We are arrogant. That's why we call ourselves number one. Besides who wants to run around saying we are number two ? What do you base being number one anyway ? I think we win.

I won't disagree with you but, the "fairness gene" in me kicks in most of the time.
So, IMO I think it just attempts to juggle too many balls all at once.
Sooner or later it will drop them ALL.

 

I don't think "we" are , "it" does, and seemingly YOU do ("I think we win").
So, maybe you need to ask yourself that question.

I guess it's a mind set.To tell the truth I don't think we are number one in many areas. First I think we are a police state. I think our health care sucks. But at the same time I don't want the Gov. involved in it either. There are many thing's wrong with this country. But I can't point to a better one over all. Maybe I'm wrong. Been to a lot of different countries and can't say I saw them as Better.

No I am not bothered, because millions if not billions think their own country is the best country in the world, no matter how bad or good it is in reality.

 

We're all somewhat hardwired to think our own country is better than all others, our respective media tell us so from birth. That said, most of us recognize that nowhere on earth is perfect in every way and each country has it's faults while most have their good points.

But really, what is gained by trying to tell someone their country (or their kid, or their car, or their dog) isn't as good as yours? You're unlikely to ever convince them, and anyway, who says you're right?

Compare this to the immigrants streaming in to The US.

If you were to establish a ratio of Immigrants to Emmigrants. the US would probably rank higher than number 30 amongst nations of the world.

 

It is pretty stupid to call any country the best country in the world.
Although the Netherlands is the best country in the world.
