I assume reduction in our carbon footprint is something you all agree with if not go read something else. Read an article the other week written because of the recent rises in fuel price, the journalist in question stated that the optimum speed for fuel efficiency was usualy in the region of 56-60mph and that to travel at the usual 70mph (sic) on the multi laned roads expended 10% more fuel. I knew this already but had kind of ignored it for a while, during my last two trips to Dorchester I did find myself traveling at 60mph to save the costs, and whilst poodling down the road it occured to me that not only was I saving costs but that I was also inherently reducing my carbon output. If everybody used this simple concept we could conserve a large amount of fuel and also reduce carbon emissions, is that common sense or am I barking ? I think it is sense and want to encourge others to realise and follow suit, any thoughts ?
I've found myself driving slower lately with fuel costs in mind. That said, it shouldn't take the price of petrol to make us consider these things, driving slower is better for the environment....
It is not a matter of driving slower but of driving at an optimum speed, the two things should not be confused as being the same thing because that will only encourage a negative response to the idea, it is about conservation not about speed. Driving at 60mph is the optimum speed I believe. The question again is it behaviour we should be in the act of encouraging ?
It depends, i would imagine different cars have different optimum speeds, and thus really the behaviour you should be encouraging would be to find out what the optimum speed is and trying to stick to that, although its a risky plan because im pretty sure some people would take it too far and end up in a like say 40 mph zone going faster because they believe its better for the environment.
I would say we should still be sensible enough to understand that breaking the speed limit is not acceptable, only the moronic minority would misunderstand and we shouldn't really be working at the lowest denominator surely. There are many factors that effect efficiency so defining the real value for each vehicle would be to difficult but does that therefore mean we should abandon the rational that 60mph conserves fuel and reduces carbon emissions. We are abandoning the old filament bulbs because of carbon emissions, a simple but effective action, I suggest "60 conserve" is a similar though as yet unfamiliar concept.
The type of behavior id encourage is to not drive fullstop in this country I know LOGICALLY people wont consider that, and LOGICALLY i should therefore encourage these kinds of minor things instead, but to be honest, i just cant be arsed. I really cant Im not putting full blame on people with public transport being as it is. But well, ive done it. More fool me, eh end apathetic post
I do understand your apathy, most people only seem interested in complaining rather than doing, after all its easier to go on a march in the sunshine with your mates and a banner than actualy doing something constructive. "I believe in miracles because I live them", hmmm you sure
I beg your pardon? What the fuck I hope that post was some kind of joke Otherwise it makes you look like a total arse
sorry lady bad english again, should of used a "ones" instead of a "your", no direct reference to your behaviour should of been implied, apologies. the query to your signature was refenced to you but only with regards to the stated apathy and living miracles
