without a doubt the worst sci fi movie i've ever seen (and, i've seen some real shitty ones too!) is "robot monster" this turd of a movie is so bad, that the director tried to kill himself after making it, because it is so bad! that says alot about a movie, when the director tries to kill himself because of it!

I don't think Cloverfield and Species are sci-fi-- more like action/horror. I don't think movies where people are fighting aliens are sci-fi either... I mean, what's scientific about a monster that kills people? Or for that matter, what's scientific about a guy in a spaceship fighting another guy in a spaceship?

I don't think that any real science fiction movie is bad because they tend to be written by smart people who care about ideas, not commercial-minded morons.

    They made a Starship Troopers 2 ?!?!

Strange Days was less than stellar. I recall liking some of the idea's in it but everything else, like the acting and expository beginning just made it a poor movie overall.

Johnny Mnemonic - mutilating one of the best characters in the Gibsonian universe wasn't enough, they had to put Keanu in the movie too.

Tom Cruise's War of the Worlds was very weak.

This is why SF was unoffically renamed 'Speculative Fiction.'
A far more accurate use of 'acronyms' to define a topic.
[ the 'west loves acronyms' NATO UNESCO WHO DEA CIA NSA NRO
DIA KGB GESTAPO SS FBI NKVD MVD NORAD MIRV SSBN BBGN CVGN
ATF NASA .................on and on and on without end.

I can speculate. Generally meaning i can think of anything at all.
I would call cloverfield a very poor speculation.
    The matrix an excellent one.
As P K Dick did when he speculated the idea.
[ and his speculation became a movie.. read 'maze of death']

Real SF like ones we all know.. 2001 or contact.
[or even tounge in cheek stuff like 'forbidden planet]
Can cause people to redifine their lives.
An external idea.. is wholeheartedly considered.
[but should only be 'considered' within a framework of understanding]
Unfortunately, some ideas, like fundamentalist dogma.
Is way too easy for the lazy of mind [ no framework]..
Its first tenets are. 'this is truth' all those that deny it are lesser beings.
    thats why it is popular.

I found sunshine to be technically ridiculous and philosophically empty.
[Were gonna restart the sun /heliium-hydrodren cycle/ with a big bomb...lol... tom clancy]

    to each his own

i just saw one turd of a sci-fi movie back from around 1970. it is entitled "night of the lepus." gaint man eating bunny rabbits go wild after they get out of the lab. WHAT A PILE OF CRAP OF A MOVIE THAT WAS! lucky me though! after that sci-fi turd, i saw one damn fine sci-fi move back from 2002 entitled "cube 2: hypercube." what a joy cube 2 was, after viewing that horror of bunny rabbits!

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes ...

You guys are crazy to think anything can even match WORST EVER ...

Compared to AoKT, all Sci-Fi movies could never get worse ...

Far as I consider, what made any of the Lost In Space episodes
interchangable between bad<-->worse was Jonathan Harris (Dr. Smith).
His cowardly/sneaky/conniving/stab-in-the-back role was sickening. But
then, some people probably related to this role and as such enjoyed it for
    that reason alone ...

I think the worst modern Sci-Fi movie is Battlefield Earth based on the cult-like teachings of Ron L. Hubbard. Why were the alien's dressed like Bob Marley?

attack of the killer tomatoes is another classic! that is a bad movie made to be a bad movie.

AoKT was bad. i saw worst though! it was some late 1960's turd of a sci fi movie from east germany. it was sooooooo bad i don't even remember the title of it. of course the government back then, in what was east germany, fuck up all movies from that turd of a dead nation!

Am I going to get shot down if I say I actually like War of the Worlds? :D

Of course it didn't really follow the book, but the action scenes and mass slaughter were quite fun to watch- although the ending was weak.

which version of the two films? my hunch is, that you are reffering to the to the remake and, not the 1950's version. is that correct?

the 1950's version is a nutcase of a history lesson for, the 1950's u.s.a. there is just soooooooo... very, very, very much anti-communist paranoia in that version! here it 2008 about, 55-60 years later and, we got that going down again here in the u.s.a. instead of it being a communist behind every tree now, it is a terorist behind every tree. it just proves that the majorty of people never learn from history and, therefore, we are doomed to repeat the same mastakes over and, over again!
