Hey everybody... So sorry if you already touched on this subject. I tried to find it but had no luck. Here's the scenario... I have 12 plants growing in a ebb and flow tray underneath two seperate 600W HPS bulbs. Every plant is within 12 inches of the light. The room is kept between 75 and 82 degrees F. The humitity stays between 30 and 45%. The Problem that I am having is... One of my plants seems to be getting choked out from the base. Right above the hydrotron (clay ball grow medium) the plant is getting skinnier and very slightly darker in color. At the same time, the stems from of the leaves are begining to wilt. The leaves thus far seem unharmed but their stems are all wilting and angeling the leaves more and more toward the ground. So far I have had no luck figuring out what the problem is so I am turning to you for help. Any information would be of great appriciation. Thank you.
Has your stem taken on an hourglass shape rite at the hydroton level? Sounds like fussarium to me. Fusarium is an opertunistic pathogen. If it is fussarium youl prolly lose the plant. If you like you can try savin her by applyin 3%h202 to the effected aria with a spray bottle a couple times a day but dont expect too much if the damage is signifacent allready. In the future, clean your rocks with a 1:5 bleach solution between harvests. Soakem in it with steamin hot tap water, aggatate them real good with a stick and then rince the bleach out with regular tap water. Then soak your rocks in 5.5 ph water for a fyew hours before rincing them in 6.4 ph water and then dunkem in the 6.4 water for20 minits or so before you use them. -Also- are your plants clones? Keep your hands CLEAN when cutting clones. Rince your hands and scizors off with iso alcohol between each cutting and never scratch yer ass while cuttin clones! Seein as how you got 12 plants goin, mabey you could just pull it and let the other plants use the light.
orison... I appreciate the tip and appologize for not stateing in my original message that all of my plants have sufficent air circulation and wind. CanniEvergrow... First thing, Yes they are clones, but I always rinse with alcohol between each cut, wash my hands plus wear gloves. I am very meticulus about being absolutly sterile while dealing with my clones. So I don't think that that is the problem. However, you are dead on about the plant that is concerning me begining to take on an hourglass shape right above the hydrotron. And, seeing as how all I did before I put my plants into the hydrotron was rinse them for 2-3 minutes with regular tap water, I am going to assume that you are 100% correct on your diagnosis of it being the pathogen Fusarium. Thank you so much for the help and all the new wisdom. I will forever more do everything that you listed about how to prepare hydrotron for use. Thank you.
OH its ok, CanniEvergrow obviously has a ,more experience with Hydophonics. not my medium. Welcome to the fourm..
LSDMike The root system is brilliant white in color. Very healthy and fast root development now that I have begun to treat the plant as perscribed by CanniEvergrow. CanniEvergrow Thank you again for your solution. I have been spraying the infected plant 4-5 times a day with the 3% H2O2 solution and have already began to notice results. The plant is now looking much healthier and I no longer fear loosing it. I do have one question for you though. Your solution to getting the pathogen in the first place was "In the future, clean your rocks with a 1:5 bleach solution between harvets. Soakem in it with steamin hot tap water, aggatate them real good with a stick and then rince the bleach out with regular tap water. Then soak your rocks in 5.5 ph water for a fyew hours before rincing them in 6.4 ph water and then dunkem in the 6.4 water for 20 minits or so before you use them." Did you mean for me to do this with all hydrotron (the brand new stuff right out of the bag) or just any hydrotron that I would be attempting to reuse from a previous grow cycle. The reason I ask is simply because you used the words "between harvest". In my case, I always use brand new hydrotron and would like to know if I should still use your method of cleaning it before I attempt to use it. Thank you again.
Hey Howdy Hummbledfarmer! In glad that worked out for you. Sometimes you just cant save'm. Its good you spoted it early and started treatin her rite away. Its good to be rite on top of your plants. Its realy good to do this with brand new hydroton as well as your recycled hydroton. You can do the rince off that you do with 6.4ph water with water set to whatever ph you run your nutes at. Then soakem in this water insted of the 6.4 ph water like I said in my oriional post. I just do that to aclimate the rocks into my system smoothly and I run my nutes at 6.4 ph. Do the final rince and soak, in water set to the ph you run YOUR nutes at. But do the 5.5ph soak first. And the bleachin.
