I personally think America sold out to greed a while ago and people are powerless to the decisions regarding America's present and future. Shop and shut the fuck up should be the motto of this country. But... If America invaded Iraq cuz its the most strategic point on the earth (oil, more control of the arab world), whats so wrong with that? The Soviets almost steamrolled the Middle East and would have gained an empire for god knows how long if it wasn't for America's gangsterism in stopping them and pursuing their own crusade two decades later. Protest profiteering by the fed gov't, but why protest America trying to stay on top? Opinions...?
Because you didnt stop crying when someone killed a few thou of yours in NYC. As for the Soviets "trying to steamroller the Middle East" , do you mean like YOU funding Hitler and killing 2.8 m Vietnamese , or millions of Latinos etc etc? Or starting Al Qaeda and describing it as "freedom fighters". And American "gangsterism" did nothing to stop Soviet aims and objectives. Sure . enter the politics of the Dark Side if you want , but your "special friends" in Europe will be laughing as loud as anyone next time youre crying at the body bags on your own soil. Your post is a perfect example of why America is so hated in countries around the world - whether it be "western democracies" or other forms of government. And no amount of television stations you buy will ever change that. America's time is up as the global pillager , hypocritical and twisted sermoniser and busybody. And the rest of us are feeling quite smug about it.
You say: "If America invaded Iraq cuz its the most strategic point on the earth (oil, more control of the arab world) whats so wrong with that?" and: "but why protest America trying to stay on top" Quite a bit is wrong with that actually. It is perception of others, that this is what America is doing. The acceptance of that perception, as good thing, by a large proportion of Americans, is what gets Americans (and the American admin') hated around the world I agree with: "Your post is a perfect example of why America is so hated in countries around the world ". Not helped by people who do think there is something wrong with that, still perpetuating the notion that is what America is doing. Maybe I am wrong, but I do not think America invaded Iraq because it's the most strategic point on the earth (oil, more control of the arab world). Neither do I think America trying to stay on top. Many nations around the world are In Iraq, and have intervened in conflicts around the world. But, they do not necessarily get the tag "Imperialists". Yes, countries may intervene to "protect their national interests" - but that is not the same as Imperialism IMO.
First of all that's a big if, I can't imagine Iraq being all that strategic, but more importantly, how strategic a country is in no way justifies a preemptive strike, period. Our occupation of Iraq is a crime on a global scale, and it sets a disturbing precedent. As for America "staying on top", we're not doing that in our invasion of Iraq. We're better off setting an example to the global community, adhering to the Geneva Convention, and practicing the democracy and human rights we supposedly represent. Instead we're acting like thugs, pissing everyone off, no way to stay on top that way.
I think this is quite obvious. Imagine a country coming into America. Trying to take us over. Can you even imagine that situation? It's more important to be a global citizen concerned about all people than concerned about "staying on top".
