just finished reading a book by rolf potts called 'vagabonding'. wondering if anyone else had read it and if it gave them the same sense of freedom that i felt. certainly for long term travel the ethics are quite approriate. what you think??? are there any vagabonds out there living the dream?

I consider myself half a vagabond, living out my dream; combining the best of the life on the road and the safety and joy of my family and friends.
Haven't read the book though, but I do know this sense of freedom all too well.

yeah his approach focuses on taking time to experience the moment, whatever it is, rather than trying to chase life. pretty cool, we try to live like this when travelling but incorporating it into the working week is difficult. worth a glimp

I read the book. Thought it was pretty good. Certainly easy to read as it only took me a couple days. A lot of what is presented is very practical, yet at the same time it's not a how to travel book. It's more about making the most of your time really in a spiritual sense, without getting caught up in all the fine details and stress.

I'm heading out myself In January 2009, can't wait!

nice one, myself and my girlfriend are currently sorting ourselves out to leave the uk for an extended period. hopefully gonna get TEFL qualified and teach round asia when the funds run low so that we can keep experiencing our time on the road.

Is it difficult to get qualified? I thought of doing something similar as well.

its more of a certification than a qualification, at least it is in the uk. you take a course that gives you the (very) basics, gain your certificate and then apply for jobs. most of the positions available seem to require you to have a degree as well. also, a further requirement seems to be that you are a native english speaker, so you should be ok.

Cool I checked out that site a bit, I never finished college but it doesn't seem to be completely necessary. Thanks for the info, I'm going to look into this!

Where in Asia did you want to travel?
