Transcendental Meditation

Has anyone on this forum ever tried Transcendental Meditation? I learned the technique a few years ago, though I didn't start meditating regularly until a few years ago. For those who have tried it, what did you think of it? How did its effectiveness compare with other forms of meditation?

 

I did TM. It's a good meditation technique.

 

I suggest you you search the internet tm cult or stuff like this. It is well known they are a cult. Not the most dangerous one but still a cult. And when i mean cult i don't mean an esotoric cult that except few members. I mean a cult that would accept everybody if you are going to pay them a VERY HIGH sum of money. I myself had been in there when i was thirteen and practiced their meditation. Together with my family. Then i searched in the internet and found them on cult lists. Besically their meditation is like this: They give you a one word mantra you say over and over again for some time. In the beginning they require five minutes and each year you grow you add one minute until you reach age 20 then you are meditating 20 minutes if you are more than twenty yo. Besically they have initiation ceremony when you are in front of a picture of mahrishi mahash yogi (and he isn't really a maharishi). and the instructor mumble some staff and throwing something (i dont remember what) and give you your own unique mantra which is different from person to person, but that's a lie, because the mantra are arranged according to age (but they don't tell you that)
The question i asked is why they lied to me?

And you may ask if the meditation itself has any benefits. So i can tell you i felt no benefits nor bad nor god (for example, my father said he felt it was stupefied him). So, really, there are so much better meditation then tm.

 

Yeah, they are a Neo-Hindu cult. This is true. Cults are mostly defined by how they change ones internal vocabulary and that internal shift brings importance to the cult to the degree that ones own life takes second seat. Religions are also cults.

But TM itself was a good technique which helped me a number of ways. I don't much do it anymore. Mainly because I lost interest in this cult's antics.

But still... a good technique...

 

I did TM almost a year ago and i must say it's a good meditation technique.
