I heard about that book that was written by a 19th century russian "anarchist". A non-violent christian person who put a lot of his beliefs into that book which later influenced Gandhi into his crusade. Anyway I'm going to look for it and I was just wondering has anyone else read it and how was it?
I've read Tolstoy's 'Confessions', which come from the same period, and are excellent. As you say, he was into Christian values, but sickened by the way they are falsified by society and the church and state. To call him an anarchist might be a bit deceptive, because he really wasn't into politics. He was rich enough to be able to withdraw to his estates and try to put into practice his beliefs in a small way. Tolstoy also repudiated his earlier career as a novelist - which is actually really something, as his 'Anna Karenina' and 'War and Peace' are considered by many to be among the finest ever written.
Tolstoy's The Kindom of God Is Within You is a powerful book. Be careful, it requires a strong and dedicated mind to digest the weighty contents...You will be changed after reading it, and that's a good thing.
It sounds like quite a dangerous book for any leaders of world religion. They are the gatekeepers, and they hold the keys. not.
