Please don't be mean... I've never been to a rainbow gathering before so I truly don't know... Is it okay to come up early and help out perhaps? is there anything I can do? Say I buy a 1-way Greyhound ticket to Rock Springs and get on the bus wednesday, get there maybe friday, could I 1 get a ride from there to the gathering 2 get a ride home when it's done if not its no problem, I can get a round trip ticket by I really dont know if I can spend that much peace and love
if i were you,,being your pretty inexperienced i would do the roundtrip ticket.. while you can get a ride to anywhere on the 5th,,i wouldnt count on it being a reliable safe ride all the way home.. a lot of variables come into play and anything could happen.. not sayin ya might not be able to catch a ride straight to your front door,,but i wouldnt count on it... there is probably someone doing some kind of shuttle from rock springs, maybe could catch a lift with someone doin a supply run.. if ya hang out long enough youll get a ride straight there.. and yes you can leave anytime they are waiting for you..
if you think you could manage to stash cash and not let anyone know you had it for the time you were there, you could maybe get a one way ticket, then catch a ride to as close to home as possible, then just get a bus ticket the rest of the way,,but you should really think about how much cash ya wanna carry with you an if ya do,,who ya tell..
You can probably go to a Wal-mart or gas station and get a ride to the gathering with some hippies getting supplies. Getting back home might be a little harder. Like the above posters were saying.. you never know who you will run into at gatherings a lot of wolves put on sheep clothing (peace, love ect). Edit: Greyhound really SUCKs!!! Might be worth trying to spend a few hours in the parking lot looking for a ride.
Why not just use a debit card? I hear that debit cards are more common in Canada than any other country in the world but I assumed they were commonly used in the USA. Right? I would be very weary about carrying large amounts of cash on me. Here in Canada a round trip costs the same as buying a ticket there, and buying a ticket back again on a different date (no savings on a round trip).
This is a much better question. And the answer is...I don't know. Is there anything you can do? There's a lot of unskilled labor jobs that need to be done...dig wood, chop water, carry holes, cut up dishes, wash vegetables...but there's also lots of unskilled laborers to do them. The only skill you have that I know of is as a musician. If you see a crew walking off with shovels & mattocks & other implements of destruction, saying something about a shitter that needs to be dug, grab your guitar and join up. Providing the entertainment is useful work, and I don't care what anybody says to the contrary. Keep tour eyes, ears and mind open, and learn what needs to be done, so that you can do it next time, or the time after that. This Wyoming Gathering is special to me because the WY Gathering in '94 was where I found, after 3 Annual Gatherings, the place where I could be the most help. And fergoshsakes, heed Ms Cinnamon's advice. When you get to the Gathering, you'll see a lot of women your age, and quite a few in their late 30's and older, but noticeably fewer in their mid 20s-early 40s. Where are they? Taking care of that kid the cute hippie boy left 'em with. And this after they've finally found that place at the Gathering where they can best help out, and learned a couple things about how do do it more effectively. A real weakness in the Family, this lack of a whole demographic group. Sublette County Chamber of Commerce website has info on shuttle and taxi service from Rock Springs, but you should have little trouble hitching a ride from Rock Springs (Read Pinedale Online's advice about hitching on 191.) by Friday. This is one of few instances when I'd advise a young woman traveling alone to hitch. Make sure you schedule your Grey Dog ride to arrive at a decent hour, even if it means leaving out at stoopid30 in the AM! AS SOON AS YOU GET TO THE GATHERING get a piece of cardboard, and a Sharpie, and make yourself a sign says " Need ride to El Paso, leaving no later than (Blank), and tie it to the back of your pack, or duct tape it to your guitar case, or something. You should have no trouble finding a ride at least as far as New Mexico somewhere IF YOU DON'T WAIT TILL THE LAST MINUTE TO START LOOKING. Have fun, pack it in/pack it out, and don't let a bunch of grouchy old farts ruin your day. Edit: Don't forget the extra set or 3 of guitar strings! If you don't need 'em, some other Geetar player will. (Why is it guitar players are expected to provide their own strings? Shouldn't guitar listeners bring the spare strings, and only give them away to players that don't suck?)
it's mostly surely very possible for certain more than one rainbow will be on that bus to wyoming . and anyway , we're driving from iowa in a red pick-me-up truck and should arrive in rock springs late friday night and could as well swing by the bus station and cruise through the hwy junction gas stations to see what's up .
JuJu used to get a new set of strings given to him every year, usually on our anniversary; and they were the fancy 'never been rolled' kind
Me too! Me too! I hope it was a blast for ya! My wife & I had a rockin great time! It was her 1st gathering & my 4th... Better & better every time I tellsya!
ive gotta ask... just curious... and please, do provide the honest answer... rainbows are as varied as people. ive gotten involved with some rainbows good and bad. the bad include an ex who was definitely questionable. he promised to make it so that i could never travel to a gathering and threatened to call in favors to family to do me harm. i gotta ask... how much of this should i be wary of? and are there elders who i could go to for advice on this shit? or should i just stick to loving everyone, trusting nobody, shutting the fuck up, and steering clear?
Well first off it sounds like your ex isn't being very Rainbow-like.. In my opinion at least.. But I'd say the best thing to do would be to keep enjoying the gatherings, keep your negativity radar on high alert, & keep a good distance between you & this individual. Come hang around the Musical Veggie or Brew-Ha-Ha if you'd like, We definitely are against aggro of any sort at the gatherings, & certainly wouldn't bash someone because of a spurned ex-lover... Anyway, I hope you have a much better Rainbow-going experience next time around!
