this is true. and pasties are amazing. granma used to make those, with fruit at one end and meat at the other. it was heaven.
Yeah, I love Cornish pasties! Originally the crusts were meant for the miners to hold the pasty without getting coal on the actual edible part, and the crusts weren't meant to be eaten. The discarded crust was then meant to be an offering of sorts to the 'bwca' (boo-KA -- old Welsh for bwgan, meaning 'ghost') who were the spirits of the mines, to prevent them leading unaware miners into the dangerous depths of the mines.
just the ribbed part of the crust was for holding, hence why its a pastie and not a pie whats so fussy about pork and cheese anyway ? perhaps if meat eaters were made to eat the whole animal we wouldn't have so many squemish people !
The thing about American stores that you likely miss out on in the UK is often they also carry local stuff, which is the best to get though sometimes more expensive. Anything exported is from large corporations and quality is not as good 99% of the time. You need to simply come here and try some of the locally made, more micro produced products which beat any American thing you'd find in a UK grocery store. The local products have more soul and more heart put into it, for the most part. That goes for items ranging from salsa to produce to salad dressing to especially beer to salad dressing, dairy and beyond. Really Anything. Local is superior to mass produced.
Heh, there's a very similar thing in the UK.. well Tesco don't do it so much (apart from fruit & veg) but there's loadsa mighty tasty local stuff in Waitrose.. Lincolnshire Pound Cake, mmm (unfortunately cos its waitrose it doesn't cost a pound )
I used to love Wendy's burgers and milkshakes when I was a kid, don't know if they're still around over here.
damn. i guess i didn't have to kill her after all. (sorry, that's me, kc, i'm still signed in under my husband's name.)
Trust me, you're not missing anything. Pumpkin pie, that's about it. Everything else is just corn syrup...
