i've been reading around and you all have a different opinion about what to do about certain dread problems and i dont even know who to listen to anymore, probably cause i'm a n00b and know none of you.

i just backcombed my hair like 2 days ago. they look fine. i used a little bit of wax (because i hadnt been on here yet), but when i touch them i cant even feel the wax, and when i squish them i cant feel the wax so its not inside the dreads. i saw this one person say that if you used wax you should brush your dreads out and start over. well, my friends spent 2 days doing my dreads so i'm totally not brushing them out. fuhgit that.

i'm just curious if they're going to lock up though. like is it REALLY that bad if theres a little wax? will it really ruin the chances of it locking, completely?
my hair tends to do whatever i want it to do even when i'm not trying, so i dont know.
also, since none of you are fans of Dreadhead (or so it seems) how come the picture gallery on dreadhead has some nice dreads on it. it must've worked for some people, right? whats the problem?
    also.
will they fall out if i take the elastics out?

    p.s.
sorry if i sound mean or something. i'm not trying to. i'm just pissed that i was one of the people who found dreadhead first and now i'm worried that they're going to fall out or get ruined. i'm already really attached to them and i'd be sad if they got ruined.

Ey man I did dreadhead and let me tell you fuck that lol there wax is sum nasty shit bro I used it in my hair for the first few weeks just a lil at that and I still find wax in my hair and its almost 2 years old dreaded that is. The wax is a mess man dont touch that stuff, boil some water dip ur dreads and scrub a bit and from there when you feel the urge to wax just break off a strand of aloe vera and peel it and dilute a lil with water and rub that on ur dreads. This is just my opinion tho

I don't have any actual experience with dreadlocks(yet)..but from what ive heard wax is evil, sorta reminds me of all those exercise equipment commercials that dont really work(just go running)..do everything you can to get the wax out and just let your hair be.

i did dreadhead as well... i'm still finding wax and i only used it once... my dreads are only about two months though. anyway dont worry about combing the dreads out.. they'll be fine. just throw away the wax and use sea salt spray ALOT. i wash my hair about 2 times a week and i usually put sea salt spray on and let it dry and then wash my hair. i have found that this helps A TON! also.. just go all natural from here. dont use wax or lock peppa or anything else that they sold you unless its beads.

about their photos on their website... alot of them i think look like crap. there are only a few on there that i think are respectable and i kinda highly doubt that those people use wax.. and if they do then they probably barely use any. take a look at the pictures on this forum and you will see dreads that look 100 times better than on the dreadheadhq website.

TBH i used wax for about a month and it doesn't appear to have casued any lasting damage....Don't worry about it..just don't put anymore in...

The dreads look good becuase they have been heavily maintained. Wax causes mould and your dreads to rot with persistent usage....it stops the dreads actually knotting and causes stuck together hair not real dreads...

Most probably...keep them in for a month if you care that much about them falling out...i did..but tbh i didn't know much about dreads then and if i were to do them again i wouldn't bother keeping them in. Your dreads are going to fall apart in the early days...it has to happen for your hair to lock up...just leave your hair alone and eventually it will all lock up...it takes a long time to get good dreads..

false... take out the rubber bands NOW. look through this forum and there are some pretty nasty horror story threads about the rubber bands getting stuck or lost in dreads and people finding them a year later all knotted in and half melted. just take them out. your dreads will fall apart and the sooner they do the sooner they will re-dread themselves.

i wouldn't bother with elastics and stuff, if you try to control your hair that much you'll end up hindering the dreading process. people like soaringeagle have said that countless times...backcombing and the things that sometimes go with it are just there to get an early start, but your hair still dreads pretty much as fast and the whole elastics and whatnot stuff seems to originate from the whole wax scene.

people wouldn't do all that unnatural stuff if the dreads wouldnt look good...but glueing your dreads together with wax and gathering shit in them you dont even see until its too late is not my cup of tea if i can accomplish all that and alot more with just more time and ..doing....nothing.

the wax will probably be there for a while... nothing you can do about it really. just wash with hot hot water and try some of the deep cleaning concoctions on here.

hey, i dont want to make too many different threads but i have another question. hopefully someone will see it. i saw some pictures where people had wrap type things on various sections of their dreads and i was just wondering what those were called or like, how to make them.

That's what they are, wraps..or dread wraps (dreadwraps?). You can find stuff using the search button, but basically it's just wrapping your dread into something of your choice...aslong as it's not something you wouldn't logically put in your hair/on your head.

At the very first, I found the dreadhead site and found out how much they glorified the use of wax. Being completely new to it all, I did further research because of the huge debate over wax and what not. After chilling it in these forums for a while, I go back to the dreadhead site and look at the same waxy dreads I was once fascinated by, and actually see the huge difference between natural and going all wax. The natural looks a lot more "real" and sexier, though that might just be my biased opinion.

There is nothing to stop you from sectioning your hair, back-combing and maintaining your dreads, because that is what I am personally doing right now. But by all means: avoid the wax, it will only slow down the process
