I want to try to get dreadlocks,I am white and my hair is about 2 inches long. I was about to buy one of those kits(shampoo, wax, etc.)but from what ive read on the site I guess there sorta a scam.
I am wondering what is the best way for me to get dreadlocks? I read about the brush rubbing technique using a bristle brush, will that help my hair knot up?

Wax will damage your hair and prevent it from properly knotting, plus it will get smelly and can look really gross if you over use wax. That and the fact wax can catch dust. There is no set best way to get dreads, but it comes down to you and how you want them to look. If you want them sectioned out and look even, then you should look into sectioning your hair and back combing. If you are shooting for the natural look then simply stop brushing your hair. In both cases you will need a different shampoo than the one you are using, something residue free will help you loads :)

    Hope I helped

    Two inches?

    1) Never touch another comb or brush to your head.
    2) Get some bronners shampoo, wash about once or twice a week.
    3) Play around with your hair.

It probably won't start dreading until its about 4 inches. but its best to just start your journey asap. I shaved my head at the end of november, and my hair is virgin from a brush and comb. Although i did accidently grab the regular shampoo once instead. That was a sad day.

Either way, just don't use regular shampoo, deffinetly dont use conditioner. Pick up some dr. bronners soap and use that, make sure you dilute it.

You cant really do much with two inches of hair, even if you wanted to back comb.

Don't buy into any "dread lock" products. Unless its a tam, bead, or etc from the great artists we have on this site. ;)

i'm gonna disagree with that... im no "natural dread elitist" or whatever everyone dislikes about how soaringeagle talks about all natural dreads... but hes right. there are no dreads like natty ones. just listen to whatever soaring eagle says... hes got the most experience here (i think). dont touch another comb and use bronners once or twice a week. wear a wool hat and in a few months post some pics.

oh and i kinda speak about natural dreads from inexperience... i backcombed and wish i had all natty dreads but im not about to shave my head and start all over... so even though i backcombed this dreadhead has been all natural since he found this forum...

thanks for the info guys..but I have a couple more questions..
    1. What about the bristle brush? will it help?
    2. Should I just wear the wool tam or rub it too even though my hair is only 2 inches?
    3. You guys say to use bronners once or twice a week, is it okay to wash with hot water everyday?

1: What exactly are you planning on doing with the bristle brush?
2: I just wear mine. When im just sitting around the house. i guess you could wool rub if you want too.
3: I wash with hot water everyday.

this might help get em started since the hairs short mix up soome aloe gell with lil water in a bowl
dip your fingers in it then with the wet slimy sticky fingers section and twist up a bunch of twists let dry a bit and the aloe should hold em together
wear a wool hat as much as u can
when u wash do the sea salt and lemon rince (rince out after but leave on a bit maynbe 10 min before rincing)
then repeat the aloe twist (noit daily and when they start surviving showes stop twisting and use lerss aloe or none
