I wasnt even depressed to begin with...doc. put me on it for anxiety....

But the more I take it the more I lay around wishing i was dead...

I know ghost lyrics had a similar story....

I was FINE on lexapro but I swear this zoloft is making me almost suicidal. As soon as I get off the ativan (about three more weeks) im stopping that shit cause that's all it is, shit.

It’s one of the little known side-effects the pharmaceutical companies don’t want exposed

Seriously i was FINE...just anxious....now half of the time I lay in bed for like two or three hours before getting up just not even knowing why I SHOULD get up. It's getting bad. I swear as soon as I'm off this other shit I'm weaning off of that. It seemed to help for like two weeks and after that just made me worse.

I've heard the same story before, and yet If you search the net for research into the side-effects of anti-anxiety medication, suicidal thoughts and depression are rarely mentioned

Actually after I go smoke a cig. I'm gonna look up zoloft and worsening depression and/or suicidal thoughts..... sometimes you can find amazing forums where people who have taken things will tell the whole truth.

Just not the pharmaceutical companies site and even the paper i get with it says "if you experience worsening depression....."
DUDE I WASNT EVEN DEPRESSED NOW I AM.
    wtf.

Whatever happened to the good old days when the drug companies were clueless and relied primarily on the placebo effect, rather than creating something that can actually alter the brain chemistry to the detriment of the patient

maybe you should keep taking it

Then you can be on the ground floor when someone files a class action lawsuit against the company for ignoring “the preverbal interoffice memo” which alerted the companies top executive officer’s to the potentially deadly side-effects of taking Zoloft [IMG]

    lol....yeah maybe hotwater ;)

well i take 100 milligrams too and it makes me want to kill myself and other people so im sure it effects diff. ppl differently? how long have you been taking it?

also probably a huge difference is....and a websearch eluded to something that i dont have the time nor patience nor energy to find but "what can happen when you take zoloft when you're not depressed" and the person that said when they read that they just wrote "why didnt anyone tell me?"
i was not depressed. i have panic attacks.
if you're depressed it prolly acts differently.

I don't mess with zoloft... It gave me migraines and the pharmacist told me to stop taking it immediatley. I never got any suicidal tendencies or thoughts though. I did when I was a lot younger and they tried to put me on Prozac. I'm a lot happier with just my ativan though.. I only have Panic Disorder, so I really don't need the other stuff.

    Lucky,

I'm telling you, some of those anti-anxiety meds make you worse off than before you began them. I've still being trying to be weaned off Effexor XR (which I was given to prevent a relapse of Post Partum Depression after I had the twins, and also due to Post Traumatic Stress due to my near death experience with the delivery), and the side affects from doing so are so horrible that I end up taking the pills again to avoid them. I'm on the lowest dose, so you would think it would be easy, but no. When I try to go a day without, I feel like my whole body is going to shake into a million pieces, I get horribly sick to my stomach, I get dizzy, my vision is altered (I feel as if I'm in a dream-like state) and I get this feeling, almost like an electric shock. It's weird, but when I looked up the side affects of going off of the medication, sure enough, everything I was experiencing was listed.

Although the medication definitely helped me through some rough periods, I almost wish I had never even taken it because now my doctor thinks he needs to put me on something else to combat the side affects so that I can be weaned off the Effexor. So basically I need another med to get off this one? Ridiculous isn't it?

yeah that is kind of messed up, but then again look at what time period we're living in. Medicate and medicate some more, never cure just make it look like its getting better.... it's all about the money.

Yeah, thats what happens. You go to the dr because of situational depression, or some kind of anxiety issue, and they give you pills that send you on a downward spiral until you're a suicidal basket case.

Ive heard of this happening way more often than Ive heard good reports, and also experienced it personally. So I think its good you plan to get off those. Its not too bad, especially zoloft in comparison to effexor. Just wean it right, and there will be a few days of discomfort and head zapping feelings. Theres also rebound depression which happens usually a few weeks after you stop, but I think that high doses of b vitamins and omega 3 and 6 can offset that. It will be easier than benzos at least.

    This is from wikipedia:

The US Food and Drug Administration body (FDA) requires all antidepressants, including venlafaxine, to carry a black box with a generic warning about a possible suicide risk. In addition, the most recent research indicated that patients taking venlafaxine are at increased risk of suicide.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venlafaxine

    Are you taking 37.5?

The way I did it was drop from 150, which was the maintenance dosage, to 75, and took that for several months. Then I went to 37.5 and noticed some unpleasant effects but it wasn't too bad. Then after a month or two of that, went onto 25 mg tablets, which is not XR. I took those for awhile, then began breaking them in half since they were tablets. After that I would take a half tablet every other day for a couple weeks, then stopped from there.

A few weeks later I was so depressed I couldnt function, and even had to drop my classes. I was never like that before the pills, and have been off them for almost 3 years now with no serious depression problems like that.

Never again am I taking those drugs. Complete last resort.

wysteria- well ive been taking ativan for months and im weaning off of that first.... then im gonna wean off of the zoloft- i dont wanna do both at once.

but anyways yeah that is horrible hcm- it was pretty bad when i weaned off of lexapro years ago but not that bad.....
anyways i hope you are right, deviate and zoloft isnt as bad as effexor to wean off of. cause i am being serious- i wasnt depressed.....now im sleeping 13 hour nights and when i wake up i ALWAYS have this feeling of not wanting to be alive.... not wanting to sleep....not wanting to be awake..... i mean i am weaning off of other stuff but ive weaned off of both alcohol and benzos before and never felt this feeling. if anything i k now the zoloft is NOT helping at all.... with anxiety or depression, which like i said, i wasnt depressed to begin with...... at first i was happy with the zoloft cause it took away my pms but now its not even doing that....just making everything worse....

    What are sertraline tablets?

SERTRALINE (Zoloft®) is an antidepressant. It helps to improve a depressed person's mood. Sertraline can also help people with an obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, post-trauma stress, or social anxiety. Sertraline may also be prescribed for other purposes, like premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD), a severe type of premenstrual syndrome. Generic sertraline tablets are available.

What should I watch for while taking sertraline?

Visit your prescriber or health care professional for regular checks on your progress. Continue to take your medicine even if you do not immediately feel better. It can take several weeks before you feel the full effect of sertraline. If you notice any unusual effects, such as restlessness, worsening of depression, agitation, difficulty sleeping, irritability, anger, acting on dangerous impulses, or thoughts of suicide or suicidal attempts, you should call your health care provider immediately.

If you have been taking sertraline regularly for some time, do not suddenly stop taking it. You must gradually reduce the dose or your symptoms may get worse. Ask your prescriber for advice on slowly stopping sertraline.

You may get drowsy or dizzy. Do not drive, use machinery, or do anything that needs mental alertness until you know how sertraline affects you. Do not stand or sit up quickly, especially if you are an older patient. This reduces the risk of dizzy or fainting spells. Alcohol may interfere with the effect of sertraline. Avoid alcoholic drinks.

Do not treat yourself for coughs, colds or allergies without asking your prescriber or health care professional for advice. Some ingredients can increase possible side effects.

Your mouth may get dry. Chewing sugarless gum or sucking hard candy, and drinking plenty of water will help.

If you are going to have surgery, tell your prescriber or health care professional that you are taking sertraline.

What side effects may I notice from taking sertraline?

Side effects that you should report to your prescriber or health care professional as soon as possible:
•anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, inability to sleep, irritability, hostility or extreme anger, aggressiveness, engaging in unusual or dangerous activities, restlessness or inability to sit still, fast talking, actions that are out of control, extreme elation or feeling of happiness that may switch back and forth with a depressed or sad mood
    •fast heart rate, palpitations
    •dizziness or lightheadedness
•hallucination, loss of contact with reality
    •seizures
    •skin rash, itching (hives)
    •unusual tiredness or weakness
    •vomiting

Side effects that usually do not require medical attention (report to your prescriber or health care professional if they continue or are bothersome):
    •agitation or restlessness
    •blurred vision
•constipation (less common) or diarrhea (more common)
    •difficulty sleeping
    •drowsiness
    •dry mouth
    •flushing (redness of skin)
    •headache
    •indigestion, nausea
    •increased or decreased appetite
    •increased sweating
    •intestinal gas
•sexual difficulties (decreased sexual ability or desire)
    •tremor (shaking)

wow I never knew that zoloft had so many side effects... I'm just glad I'M not on it... anymore anyway. No wonder it made me feel like crap! I hope they can make something work for you, luckystripe, instead of this crap. Has anyone done any investigating into welbutrine? or however you spell it. I've heard it has almost no side effects.

As with all medications, you may experience side effects when you take WELLBUTRIN XL. Side effects may be more common shortly after you start treatment. The most common side effects with WELLBUTRIN XL are weight loss, loss of appetite, dry mouth, skin rash, sweating, ringing in the ears, shakiness, stomach pain, agitation, anxiety, dizziness, trouble sleeping, muscle pain, nausea, fast heartbeat, sore throat, and urinating more often.

Seizures may occur (studies showed an incidence of 1/1000 - 4/1000). The chances of having seizures increases with higher doses. Taking more than 450 mg/day increases the chance of serious side effects. If you have nausea, take WELLBUTRIN XL with food. If you have trouble sleeping, remember to take WELLBUTRIN XL in the morning. Do not change your dose or stop taking WELLBUTRIN XL without talking to your doctor.

Call your doctor at once if you have any new or worsening symptoms such as: mood or behavior changes, anxiety, panic attacks, trouble sleeping, or if you feel impulsive, irritable, agitated, hostile, aggressive, restless, hyperactive (mentally or physically), more depressed, or have thoughts about suicide or hurting yourself.
Avoid using Wellbutrin to treat more than one condition at a time. If you take Wellbutrin for depression, do not also take Zyban to quit smoking. Too much of this medicine can increase your risk of a seizure.
Do not smoke at any time if you are using a nicotine product along with Zyban. Too much nicotine can cause serious side effects. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Wellbutrin. Alcohol may increase your risk of a seizure while you are taking Wellbutrin. If you drink alcohol regularly, talk with your doctor before changing the amount you drink. Wellbutrin can cause seizures in people who drink a lot of alcohol and then suddenly quit drinking when they start using the medication.
