huge commune in austraila? please help!

okay so i was at a festival a couple of weeks ago and met this kid there that was telling me about a huge commune in austraila. he said there was a music festival there at one point, and after it was over, a bunch of people stayed and started living there. he said since then it has been growing and growing.... anyone is welcome as long as they contribute. does anyone know what place he was talking about? i have been trying to look it up but am obviously not getting far without the name or location of this place. can anyone help me out?

 

It sounds like Nimbin, but it is a town, not a commune (though I am fairly sure there are plenty of communes in the area).

yes!! i believe this is what he was talking about. sorry for confusing it with a commune. has anyone of you been there? or know anything about it?

 

I went there once when I was around 12. The people were pleasant, but the town felt pretty dirty.
