Hey all, I am new to hip forums, and am very impressed with everything I have learned on here so far. I am just starting to build a grow closet which I intend on growing a few White Widow Plants that I ordered some feminised seeds for from Rhino Seeds online. I picked up most of the materials for my project so far, including some potting mix and plant food today, I just wanted someone with some more experience to tell me if I made the right choice. I intend on growing my plants under a 400watt HPS light if that makes a difference. The Miracle Grow Organic Choice Potting Mix is what I chose for soil. Wow, this has been a project so far. I am using 3 16" Pots under the 400watt grow light. Under these circumstances, with the materials I have bought, how much weed should I yield with these plants when all comes said and done? and please any advice or insight regarding my soil and plant food choices would be very very appreciated. Thank you all in advance soooo much.
Yield is really hard to judge, we could give you a number, but honestly, it would mean nothing because there are so many variables... What kind of ventilation are you using? You are going to need a fan pulling air out of the cab (and therefore also pulling fresh air in, and cooling), as well as a carbon scrubber to mask the smell of the plants... I'm not going to lie, miracle grow is pretty bad for growing herb, and it's hot as hell. That food is also not ideal, as it's 17-17-17 (not the ratio of nutrients that you want, and also way to strong). These 3 numbers show the NPK levels in the mix (the three major plant nutrients - nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium: N-P-K). Basically, during veg, the plants will need mostly nitrogen, and during flower your plants will need higher levels of potassium. That is why many nute lines have separate "veg" and "bloom" nutes... With your soil and those nutes, you're going to burn the hell out of your plants and get some tiny buds that taste bad and burn crappy... There are many different nutes, as well as soils, and it can be very overwhelming choosing what to go with for a newbie. I've found my particular formula, which I am perfecting, and my plants are both very healthy and imo they look good, so here's my info. Just remember that everyone finds their greenthumb differently... Soil/mix: Promix HP with 25% added perlite Main nutes: Pure Blend Pro "veg" and "bloom" Additives: Liquid Karma, Hygrozyme, and Mychorrizae You will also need a pH meter (measure pH - durrr) and a ppm meter isnt needed, but is really nice to have and makes it easier to learn (this measures the parts per million of your water, so you know exactly how much food you are giving the plants...) If I were you, I'd find the closest hydro shop (in NE there are MANY), and talk to the people there about finding the right setup for you. Also, if your questions arent getting answered here then head over to a busier board, like icmag.com or thecannacabana.com. Good luck, if you have anymore questions then feel free to PM me, I'm glad to help. Just remember, you get out of this what you put in! Peace bruddah!
I didnt answer this post Lune, cause he basically had it covered, Without a pic, cant say if hes got anything going wrong? But Im a experience farmer, so I ddont do alot of book worm work either... If they are growing and looking good.. Your doing something right... 400mh, good for about 10sqft.. I use 4/ 400mh converts for full coverage in a 25sqft room, but dont need to run all them lamps at once sometimes either. Actually this will be the first flowering without the 1000watter.. it does not give full coverage witout being moved and thats a pain without a auto mover.. as lune says "Just remember, you get out of this what you put in"... Nothing can be more true..
yeah i've been growing for a couple years, but I still have a hard time with soil. the hydro shops i've been to don't carry dirt and the best I can find at lowe's/home depot is the MG potting soil. it works, but I know I can do much better. i'd like to just get some clean dirt, bat guano, and perlite and mix those up, and add bloom nutes later, but no store i've called has what I need, and ordering heavy stuff like that online is impractical so idk....
dont they have some Hyponex,or Scotts turf builder soils? Try Wal mart.. I come across the soil problems too. But I live in the country so we have feed stores and nurserys.. But they dont alway have soil during certain times of the year, For instance one store I go to had 4 pallets of soil 2 weeks ago.. I went in there Thursday and they had only 2 bags of soil left. HUMM, should of got them when they had them instead of putting it off thinking they will have it later.. I know you have been growing for a while but a reminder to others some soils carry WEED killer in them be sure you read the ingredients..
