I'm growing some watermelons this year. I sprinkled some tomato fertilizer around them when they were about 2'' tall. The melons are about the size of half dollar now. What can I do to get them to grow their biggest and sweetest?
well if they are watermelons why you gona use tomato fertilizer on them.... lol, I got some pics of my garden i need to post.. I have some corn, GIANT pumkins, tomatos, patatatos, peppers...? cantalope< dont look like its doing to good.. I think you want to Water them, but dont over nute them..stay with organic ferts.. But dont let them get soggy.. You should give em a good dose of water before the sun hits em and let the soil dry at times too... wet their leafs.. They got big leafs that means they either like to catch water or lots of sun or both.... All I can offer..
That was all I had in the wash room. Good Question though, I water them once a day. The soil here is sandy so it doesn't hold water well. Should I cut back on the water when they start getting ripe to make them more sweet? Any one?
http://www.gardenersnet.com/vegetable/watermel.htm Sweetness is determined by genetics and the amount of heat you have. Warm nights help. x
