Well this was like 2 years ago, when my buddy and i spontaneously decided to go on an adventure. Long story short we pretty much hitchhiked across the country (starting in PA) meeting all sorts of people and riding with all sorts of truck drivers and so on (really gives you a completely new perspective on life around the country) but anyway this took us 3 weeks, and we ended up in San Francisco. After a week in San Fran, (we were living with the "homeless folks" for that week but those guys, even though most of them would not be able to work, are not that far from normal people, with their stories of how they became homeless and their crazy personalities, they are pretty interesting people, and they know how to beat you at dominoes, haha anyway) after that week, the place we were sleeping in, a doorway, next to south park, near a Freemasons church, was empty of cars that fateful night, and we did not really notice anything peculiar about this, and like usual just curled up went to bed... About like a few hours later, i wake and with bright light in my eyes. It was a cop car, a cop was standing over and questioning my buddy. We were both terrified. He wanted our ID, we told him that it was stolen, he began barking at us to infiltrate our psychological defenses, he then called for backup. Then after he found out that we were "missing people" things went down pretty bad. After they had all the info on us, they put handcuffs on us (and shit they put em on and make it painful. Also the one cop took our bags of grass and just put them in his pocket. They had us go into one of those armored trucks, and took us to the police station. We must have spent up to 2 hours there. They were searching for a place to put us, but it seems that all their normal and low security establishments were full. Meanwhile they were communicating with our parents, and although they were supposed to let us go in 12 or so hours, they made up some fony reason for our arrest, and put us into maximum security jail... or was it prison... haha. Anyway, i suppose the thing that really knocked my head off, was the time night i spent in the max sec jail cell. It was a closed coupe, and the things i heard at night, it was like being in a horror movie. The prisoners who were mostly young delinquents I'm assuming 18-25 or something. They screamed for hours at night, as if someone was cutting them apart at night, they would bang on walls and doors, I got no sleep that night (not that i would even if no one was screaming) but it was something that really was insane. The whole 4 week trip was a life and mind changing experience, if anyone wants to hear more haha just ask. But the next day our parents had flown to pick us up (we were 1 year under 18...). So crazy stuff, I'd have to say that i experience life and change at it's most naked and pure form, really had that feeling a lot where you just dont know whats gonna happen next, like your blindfolded and walking, and you cant see whats in front of you, something almost impossible to describe...:)
hmm, maybe this isnt the place for this post... well, oh well. heh

So you were basically runaways and they found weed on you but they had to make up phony reasons to arrest you? I think the fact that you had an illegal substance on you was reason enough and the fact that you were runaways may have also given them the right to hold you until your guardians came to get you.

well the fact that we were runaways only gave them right to hold us for 8 or 12 hours, then they had to let us go, and as i said the one cop simply took the tree that we had and he either took it himself or threw it out, he told us that he would throw it out, because it was not mentioned anywhere that we had illegal substances on us on the case. So there are good cops and bad cops in this world. And it was really obvious at that incident, the first cop that busted us was a real dick, while the guy who pulled up later was real nice guy. Maybe this is deliberate police technique for questioning and getting more info and what not who knows...

Well, I don't know why they would, but i'm pretty sure its the way the law is, a certain amount of time is given for your parents/guardians to pick you up, and if they do not in that time then they have to let you go.

And please forgive me for illiteracy, i completely just forgot... about those paragraphs...

The one lady who worked at the jail, told us that they have so many run away cases, its crazy. (She even told us that she herself ran away when she was 17, and now she deals with runaway cases, haha)

running away is illegal. when you're caught, you go to jail until you talk to a judge and or your parents.

I think he was just telling you why you were being held there for more than 8-12 hours, if he's in the marijuana forum, chances are he's not very fond of the government either haha!

I've really wanted to do this for a while but nobody I know would be interested in anything like that, and it isn't a good idea around my age anyway.

    Did you come through colorado?

Jesus fuck there's alot of complainers in this forum...

Anyway, great story man. I'd like to do something like that some day (with the exception of the jail part). I just watched this movie called "Into The Wild" which is kinda about that.
