Never did know you watched football, Jess. I've honestly been missing most of the Euro games because I work while they're playing and someone always manages to fuck up and tell me the score before I get to watch the re-runs. Plus, it's kinda hard to watch football by myself... it's a social activity. Competitions such as the Euro aren't as good either because everyone plays like a pussy so that they don't get injured because there's so much more money in club play. ...and to add to it all... England, the team I always root for (together with Israel who never qualifies as it is) ain't playing... this Euro is semi lame. But I'm all about the Lakers winning the next 3 games at home against the Celtics. You saw that comeback in game two lads? Huh? Only reason it wasn't a win was because the refs were corrupt as shit. I've been watching basketball ever since birth and I have never seen such a badly officiated game. Makes me think that the entire NBA is just a show.
don't get me started on the officials. lopsided...how about the lakers vs utah this postseason where the lakers had +26 foul shots - hows that any better than game 2? . then the celts vs cavs series, the celts got murdered on the FT line. point being, its been inconsistent through the whole year and into the postseason. Game 2 saw the celtics go to the paint a lot more than the lakers...lakers have been settling for jump shots. look at the actual fouls both teams commit and you see that they arent' much different. look where the fouls are committed and you'll see the difference. the officials let the lakers get away with a lot in the 4th, combine that with lax play by the celts and you got a comeback. that horrific travel, holy shit - they'll call a slight shuffle in the feet, but let people take as many steps as they want. or how about Odoms over the back and then throwing the ball on the celtics player out of bounds. the NBA needs a overhaul for sure.
Portugal's gonna win. And Spain just scored. Fuck you, Russians! It's about time Spain won something.
Holland really should win... it just seems like they're young and energetic enough while still having some awesome veteran talent. It just can't be as inconsistent during the post season. They were tough on the Jazz because no one wanted to see the Jazz advance to the conference finals. They are a dull team. This is what I'm getting at, it's gettin' ugly. I'm feeling like Pressed_Rat here, but it's just getting too damn commercial, it's not really about basketball anymore. I'll still watch the damn thing. Probably won't have a fantasy team next year though, had one ever since I was like 13 when I just got the internet. I just don't think I can keep up that well. The Odom move was smart and legit. PJ Brown was down, and he was saving it. How is it different from throwing the ball on a player? I'm sure that at least a part of Brown's body was on the court, which in my opinion makes it legit. Now how about the fouls on Kobe? At least they laid off his back later on. The fouls not only gave the Celtics a point advantage, but also gave them the damn opportunity to get inside. Almost all of the Lakers' key guys were in foul trouble. Can't really play playoff defense when your team is bound to have no offence if you get fouled out. But yeah, some of the 4th quarter calls were a little lame, but the Lakers came back because of sheer defense and a little offensive luck. No one was worried about the fouls anymore, the refs started to call the game as it is, and Kobe pushed those fuckers. Did you hear the speech he gave? Hell, I didn't... because they censored every 2nd word out. Mothafucka lashed out on them. Lakers win today. It's pretty much unavoidable. Still gonna be a fun game to watch as long as the refs don't ruin it... they honestly made it frustrating to watch game 2.
the Odom move was smart in most cases, but Odom came and pushed Brown from behind which caused him to miss the rebound and fall to the floor...over the back foul. Kobe put himself into foul trouble with 2 stupid defensive fouls. i didn't like the offensive foul called on him...Allen played it off though...but still shouldn't have been called. I didn't agree with the Tech either, but they've been calling that all postseason long on everyone. Kobe not getting calls because he's not driving to the basket - yea, he did get hit on that spin move. but look at most of Kobes shots...they were jump shots, with lotsof fadeaways. all of Powe's foul were at the basket. when a team settles for jump shots, you won't get to the line - Period...at any level of the game. Lakers went away from posting up Gasol for some reason..don't know why, but i look forward to see if they go back to that tonight because it works i just hate when teams complain about the refs when they go against them, but will accept it when they are favored by the refs. no room for complaining when you know your team benefited from bad officiating previously in the post season. If the celtics kept pushing the ball up the court instead of walking it up, the Lakers would have had no chance to come back. the celtics need to finish out games...they did that in previous games this postseason i just really want to see a game where the officials don't favor either team.
Dunno if Odom's thing was a foul, there was mutual contact there... but yeah, could be. The screen foul on Allen shouldn't have counted. Kobe was just guarding Ray Allen who was just running around screens. Kobe didn't foul Allen, he was just aggressively perusing him among screens. You have to guard Ray that close, he's the league's fastest shooter. Kobe stopped driving out of frustration, it seems. There were at least 3 drives that could have easily been given the foul. He sure can make those impossible long shots though. They really should post Gasol. Really really really should post Gasol. He needs to put KG on more posters. I'm not a Laker fan, it's not like I'm complaining because my team is loosing. (Even though I think that I'm a part of a new and ferocious generation of Celtic and Danny Ainge haters. Bought himself a damn team). I'm complaining because I like to watch basketball, and that game was ugly to watch. It's the finals, for all I care, the refs should either let the players play a good physical game, or call the fouls on both teams. Celts really do need to learn how to finish though. Overconfidence can always be a problem. (Lakers in 7.... I wish )
well, the guarding Allen thing...he really is taking a page out of Rips book on running around much more. its effective, especially when he's hot. whoever was guarding Rip in the E. Conf finals were getting those defensive fouls called...so that is consistant with that type of play. i loved Kobes look when he had the foul called when he ran over Pierce. he ran right through the screen haha. i love physical games...but there not gonna allow it to go that way...i love the 80's games between the celts and lakers...but they won't let it get that physical haha. i hate people saying they bought the team. yea, we got KG and Allen. but for the most part, we have a young team. and so far, our young guys are putting the Lakers bench to shame...and Rondo is putting Fisher to shame. Kobe hasn't been effective against the Celts all year long. the only person i've seen be able to drive at will to the basket was King James, but that was for just 1 game. they have a great defense that makes teams shoot jump shots. Lakers aren't used to that type of defense. i am excited for the future to see how Bynum comes back...he comes back strong, the Lakers will have a huge inside force which they seem to be lacking right now
You gotta guard Allen much closer than Rip. Rip doesn't simply pull up for jumpers, even though he does run the floor better than anyone in the league. You have to keep up with Rip, while you have to ass fuck Allen. Your young guys are impressive. Perkins can prove to be a good player if he matures a big. Rondo is a badass... there's an extremely good future for that guy. Yet honestly... your starts are Pierce, Allen, and KG... and everyone knows that Ainge would have traded Pierce if it would have been convenient. There just seems to be no heart or roots in the organization. Pierce is the only player who has survived Ainge and even he stated that he was sure that he was gonna get traded. Apparantly him and Kobe used to joke about who was getting traded first before the season started. Yeah, the Celtics defense is good, but not Kobe good. He showed that he can do it in both games... his shots simply didn't go in in game 1... there were a good 5 in and outs and such. Game 2 speaks for itself... Baynum is a great player. They're really missing him, but hell... I'd take Gasol over here any day. Gasol's D is very underrated... he can be a vicious defender if he's in the zone.
yea, Pierce and Kobe did joke about being traded haha...good thing neither were haha. its been tough being a celtics fan growing up. lots of heartache. they really weren't the same once Reggie Lewis collapsed and died...its really taking a while to rebuild to now. even though they did make it pretty far when Pierce was young, when Walker was still here...they did'nt have the heart the 80's teams did. now we got some bit time veterans, and got a good deal of young guys that want to play. growing up i was able to be in the locker rooms at the Garden with the celtics before and after games...it was amazing no one is gonna stop Kobe all the time...but you limit what he can do when he can't get to the hoop all the time. you can't stop his shot, but you can make him fadeaway. and the Celts have been great at cutting his lanes off for driving the Lakers did get Gasol for nothing though - gained a helluva player.
Yeah man, being in the locker rooms at the Garden must have been amazing. But yeah, the Celtics close Kobe down pretty much as well as you can close him down most of the time. Don't underestimate the Gasol trade. Kwame Brown = Huge contract and cap room creator. The magic of cap room landed my Magic Lewis.
i was so sad when they tore down the Garden. people call this new place the new garden...i still call it the fleet center...i won't call it the Garden until the Celts or Bruins bring back a championship. and yea, true about the cap room. a little more than a 1/2 hour till tip off. excited
Yeah man, I'm about to get off these damn forums, grab a beer, and walk through the rain to the nearest television.
i do that too...my nephew has a mini bball hoop in the living room....so yea, i throw the bballs at that when i'm frustrated haha...especially when they miss a damn FT haha missing a FT pisses me off
i saw the netherlands game, so now im rootin for them. as far as the basketball section of this thread, i used to think lakers in 4, now i think lakers in 6.
