Blackle.com

Everyone should start using Blackle.com, because its an amazing site. Its google.com with a black screen meaning that it conserves energy. So far it has saved more than 600,000 watt hours.

I like the idea of Blackle, and I use it as my homepage now, but I've noticed that the results I get when searching on it are totally different from the ones I get with Google, in a totally shitty way. I still search with Google.

 

This was going to be my exact post! I always had Google as my homepage, saw this and made the switch, but within minutes of trying it out realized results varied than those from Google...Oh well, great concept though...

 

I've always liked Blackle, but you can only search the web. You can make your own google search page too, there is a link somewhere on a page of google for it.

Blackle is a scam. If anybody used google the day they put the "lights out" you would know modern day monitors take the same amount of energy to produce any color.

 

Actually, in computer graphics, we use combinations of just three lights to produce the colors on a screen, red, green, and blue. We also use different systems for calculating colors. One of those is hue, saturation, and lightness. The saturation is how much of the other colors is present, and the lightness is how bright the color is.

The interesting thing about this system is, white and black have the same hue and saturation, the lightness is all that is different. White requires more lightness and energy, where black requires the least because of it's lack of brightness. And although minor, with how many people do actually use Google it makes a difference.

 

I just thought the idea of it was cool. You guys are right though. The results are shitty compared to the real google.


Ill give it a couple of months then try it again and see if it has improved any.

 

Now that I think about it, a year or two ago there was Pinkle.com, and couple others, but I guess just kept Blackle and made it about saving energy.

 

ive never seen this before. its pretty cool.

 

I think that I'll stop using Google in general because of this weak publicity stunt.

 

It doesn't have anything to do with Google, it just uses the engine.

 

It won't, at least it hasn't over the last year.

 

Good, I didn't really want to quit using google.

Now I can just ignore those pseudo environmentalist scum at Blakle instead.
