I've always just assumed that with ANY civilization: If you give them liberty and freedom, they fuck it up, because we are human and completely damaging to our "Being".
But are there not other countries who ARE free, that are succesful and not unbelievably corrupt? If so who?

And why is it that America got so fucked up? My conspiracy believing mind wants to believe we were created by Britain, simply to be destroyed later, but honestly, I haven't heard anything about that, I'm just assuming I guess.

I think America is a failed experiment. I guess you can't have a bunch pof free people living, because they find ways to ruin it... specifically my crime and whatnot, and then the government will always fuck them over without them knowing

Also... is there ANY way of living that is succesful? Like The whole socialism thing sounds great, but doesn't work, and the freedom thing sounds great, but also fails.

I do know that the Native Americans had it down man.
But maybe thats because they simply lived in small groups(relatively small)
I also don't want to discredit them though... maybe they really knew how to live with others.

Sigh. Alone on Friday night. Its not as bad as it would seem

I think the powers that be shape our course with major "unplanned" disasters to force new policy on us that we agree with because we are scared. Then one day the public will be so frightened of itself that it will gladly welcome total government control.

the reason pot and drugs of the sort are illegal is because the government wants to be in constant control. Be able to tell us how to live, how to think, how to dream. Us being able to smoke pot freely completely destroys that. We think for ourselves, and the government is against it. Pisses me off. I watched this show called hippy on the history channel last night. Back during the summer of love, when communes were really big. They said that we as human beings, it's our nature to be jealous and angry. So we can never live peacefully and in harmony. Or something along those lines.

If i'm babbling, its because we're in a the middle of a heatwave and my brain is not functioning correctly :)

We went wrong when we instituted certain public offices, in my opinion. The police, for example, are supposed to exist to serve and protect (as per their motto), but I can't remember the last time an officer did either for me. Instead they tend to use their power to score free drugs and fill ticket quotas.

I think that if we were left to ourselves and could live without interference then we'd manage ourselves quite nicely. If someone gets out of line, the community checks them, not some dick in a uniform.

And I'm sure our track record is worse than that: Prohibition, Vietnam, The Slave Trade, The Cold War, DEA, Thanksgiving Aftermath (That is, the settlers slaughtering the Natives after they ate at the same table), The list just goes on and on...

Personally, I think the worst evil of society is money because it fuels greed. If we still worked on the barter system or if people were trained to live a subsistent lifestyle then we wouldn't waste resources or kill each other over little slips of paper.

We never really had it right to begin with, and we never will.

The world isn't a perfect place, so at least be thankful that you live here, and not in the 3rd world.

I see where you're coming from. But damn, that's extremely close-minded. Giving in to minorities? You'll have to be more specific. But I'll have you know, that minorities in one place are the complete opposite in others... and that being said, every American is a minority in a way. We ALL come from random countries who came hundreds of years ago. I'm one of few German and Polish ancestors in my school. Even though I'm white, I'm still a minority when you consider my heritage... Everyone is.
    Christian roots? Come on now.

I mean, with all due respect, isn't helping minorities the Christian thing to do?

I believe that America became weak because of a lot of things.

Consumerism. The idea that your country can become strong merely by having people buy things. We're indoctrinated since childhood to shop. Shop for clothes so you can "express" yourself. Buy a diamond if you love her. Shit like that. But that doesn't breed strong people. Instead you get self-centered and weak shoppers whose concerns end at the borders of their town.

The government sees this. People as weak willed and unwilling to actually back things up with action. Look at Bush, nobody likes what he's doing, but we're not demanding action or retribution because that would be a major inconvenience, and we don't have the cash and can't miss work, yatta yatta bullshit. Those are the lamest excuses to not stand up for yourself. The hippies were a force because they threw off the ties of the society we're trapped in. We're trapped in the responsibilities and expectations of others.

And back to the shopper aspect. Our government has deep ties with big business. Almost all our officials land jobs with major corporation once they're out of office. Not necessarily congressmen, but the head of the FDA and the like. They all get jobs with the big corporations, and usually are from the big corporations to begin with. It's not going to make this country stronger if they're working for their company. It's all out there, people just don't care enough to look.

PS) sorry for the rant. Heh, I actually was going to say more but I'll see how this turns out.

Money is the root of all evil imo. and i don't believe in the word minorities because it's just a group thats different from everyone else around them, so if I went to india i would be the minority but in the end we are all just humans, calling someone a minority is a form of segregation. i am with jokerman on this one i think that america did try to become the superman of the world and tried to focus on everyone else's problems instead of their own and now it's too late to fix a lot of shit that went bad. i am from canada and personally i love america ALMOST as much as canada.
