Hello Everyone! I'm from Long Island Ny and am currently living in the UK, my husband and I are moving back to the US next year and am open to suggestions about places to live in the south, chilled out, affordable, good for carpentry and preschool jobs.. Asheville we loved but not that many jobs.. Atlanta metro area seems full of jobs but still on the fence.. basically we want to live somewhere close to things so we can meet people and make friends but also not a lot of commercialism (Walmarts and McDonalds everywhere).. So, anyone have any suggestions? We are also willing to look anywhere else in the US, but not anywhere cold as I have had enough of NY and London winters!! Thanks and peace out
Hello Hippie Chick- You won't have to worry too much about the cold in the South, it's the humidity that gets me! People are sure a hell of a lot nicer/more real than the ones I meet here in Southern California! James, 4th Generation Native Californian
chattanooga tn.. if i was going to live in a city it would be on top of my list.. i like asheville but its to yuppie for my taste..
chattanooga is pretty cool, it seems a nice size and a close drive to atlanta. It seems to have a large city look and a small city feel. Ive always liked Baton Rouge, when I have passed thru it seemed like a great little spot with lots of charm. Mobile Alabama is a good place for those that like being on the water, and also a decent drive to alot of larger places. Mobile also has a nice downtown, with a great entertainment district and the coolest mardi gras! Im in central alabama, its nice but there is more commercialism around here than I would like, but that kinda happens everywhere to some extent! hope it helps! s
i guess i should have included mobile and savannah... im just partial to the mountains here,,and the heat below the gnat line is a bit much for me..
Thanks everyone! Haven't thought about Alabama but will definatly look into, as well as Louisiana. Heard great things about St. Augustine Fla, anyone ever been there?
Hey, Welcome from Miami Beach. This is about as South as you can get, however it's a terrible place that you would likely not like. I'm here 'cause I hate the cold and can wear flip-flops and shorts year round. That's it. Our claim to fame? We are #1 in the whole country for rude drivers.
Baton Rouge is nice, anywhere in southeast Louisiana is good. Deal with hicks, and you're good to go!
