While I agree, McDonalds is bad.... I've never understand the argument that Walmart, McDonalds, etc. steal business. If they're cheaper and/or better, or people just prefer them, isn't that supply and demand? I've read so many articles about how Walmart and other big corporations steal business... why is it thought of as "bad", if that's what people want?
It's a cycle, Wal-Mart(or whatever) moves into town, they make alot of small places close. Those people that use to work at those smaller places now have to go work at Wal-Mart. Now because they work at Wal-Mart they can only afford to shop at Wal-Mart
Walmart buys 100% of their products from China, further "promoting" the exportation of American jobs and growth of China. Big time Corporations also put the mom and pop stores out of business causing the decay of many Americans towns turning them into poor, ghost town-like places. They all pay minimum wage, support big business, and always sacrifice quality for quantity. Thats way everything is so cheap in these stores. These are the businesses also controlling our government lobbying all bills in their favor paying off our politicians who don't give a fuck about you anymore because they have things like Walmart to look after now. Walmart is actually not even the real corporation, its a corporation, within a corporation, within a corporation and this top one is the one (with many other massive corporations) dictating laws, bills, even economic decisions. God damn, this post makes me sad that Americans don't know this stuff! :/ But American's knowledge comes down to the media for the most part... did you know that there are only SEVEN broadcasting corporations in the entire country and these are all dictating what you know and who you even vote for. Why do you think there is only 2 parties on tv? And all these stations are owned by Democrats and Republicans and are subject under the FCC.
The little Mom & Pops will do well and survive on service. The Botique stores offer better advice. Customers know it will cost more anyway, before they even walk in the door. If people are so concious about cost they will go to a Sears or Target or someplace else, not just Walmart. "Stealing business" is an odd way to express competition.
Basically, the wealth that would have been widely distributed amongst the many business-owning families across the country is now being funneled to a singular corporation. That just does not seem like a good thing to me. Although I do agree with the supply/demand and freedom of marketplace thing...
