I was wondering what the costs are for getting a divorce in ga? The divorce is mutual, there is no land or anything material to split up. There are two minor children involved, but one child lives with the dad and one with the mom so they agree on the care of each child. I looked up this site https://www.divorcewriter.com/Home.asp and i was wondering if its legit? It says that it cost only 149.99. Is there more charges once you file? Also, i heard that both parents have to attend a seminar or something about children coping with divorce before the divorce can be final. Is this true? I need any advice i can get. I cannot afford a lawyer, so i wanted to go the cheapest route i can with the two kids involved. Thank you so much for your help. <3 Alicia
the seminar thing is if the children are very young. I'm not sure what the age limit is. My parents just got a divorce a couple months back and we are in GA, but I really tried to stay out of it so I dont know much. sorry, but good luck.
Here's a legal aid website for Georgia. http://www.legalaid-ga.org/GA/ Most states require classes for divorce if there are children involved.
For general information: http://www.divorcelawinfo.com/states/ga/georgia.htm More specific information from the State Bar: http://www.gabar.org/communications/consumer_pamphlet_series/divorce/ Some states require mediation, but if the divorce and child custody arrangements are acceptable to both parties, and the children, it may be waived. It is at the Courts disrection if you have to attend mediation or not. Good luck to you...
