While I agree, McDonalds is bad.... I've never understand the argument that Walmart, McDonalds, etc. steal business. If they're cheaper and/or better, or people just prefer them, isn't that supply and demand? I've read so many articles about how Walmart and other big corporations steal business... why is it thought of as "bad", if that's what people want?
walmart only becomes their only choice when everything else closes because everyone would rather go to the new walmart...
First of all, just about everything in Walmart is made by Chinese slave labor. Of course it's going to be cheap and never lasts. It's junk. Most people shop there either because they are ignorant or can't afford to shop anywhere else (mainly because Walmart causes other businesses to jack their prices up in order to stay in business). How do they steal business? Because the smaller stores cannot compete with the prices of huge transnational corporations, which can afford to sell their slave labor at cheap prices. Most people don't realize that when a Walmart comes into a town, the town (.ie the taxpayers) must pay for the construction of that Walmart. The town is not reimbursed once the store is built. The argument is that it creates jobs, which helps the community, therefore it's somehow justified. Well, these are minimum wage, low paying jobs, often with no benefits at all. Most people cannot live on these wages. If you add up the pros and the cons, the cons far outweigh the pros. I recommend the documentary titled Walmart: The High Cost of Low Prices, which can be watched on Google video.
I don't think that anyone wants to shop at Walmart, people are just forced to do it by their circumstances. It's really not their wonderful selection of organic and whole-grain foods, even though Walmart would like to for you to think that it is.
you just didn't check closely enough... what you don't know is that i'm actually a big hairy spider, creeping around where your feet rest at night...
In the case against Walmart, Well they will use funds to support a new store so that the new store can under cut the local store until it folds, then when it folds they will put thier prices back to normal levels. This is one issue others have with the store.
Oh really. Then explain to me why the spider had to take up residence in my bed like some squatter. Id like to hear THAT!
even non-brian spiders would like such an opportunity; it's just their bad luck that the competition is so stiff
