Otherwise known as Vegetable oil. This oil, mainly derived from countries in Malaysia and Indonesia, is causing unimaginable damage to animals, the environment, the beauty and ultimately US! Since 1980 over 80% of Orangutans have been wiped out all because of western civilisations increasing demand for palm oil. Orangutans used to live all across east Asia, but now have been restricted to just the small Islands of Borneo and Sumatra in South East Asia. Plantation owners will show no mercy, torturing the orangutans until eventually they die. An adult male orangutan in about 7 times stronger than the average human, meaning workers will often work in teams to bring the orangutan down. The methods of murder are cruel and inhumane, including maiming, severing, burning alive (some plantation workers will actually pour fuel over the animals then set them alight). There are horrific photos here on the internet of the everyday killings made in Borneo and Sumatra. Palm oil, other wise known as vegetable oil, is in most of our everyday products. The palm oil companies are destroying the rainforests by dangerous methods, usually burning (which often becomes uncontrollable) to make way for plantation where they can grow this crop. These rainforests are disappearing at a rate never seen before on this planet. A lot of it yes, but it is avoidable. You can taste it in a lot of things. Has a quite nutty taste. It's worth trying to avoid it as much as you can. Check for it on peanut butter, look for ones like whole earth that use sustainable organic palm oil. Buy eco friendly soaps etc.

yes! do boycott! I went to costa rica in march, and there were miles after miles of palm trees being grown for palm oil. they use so much herbicides so that the palm trees are the only thing growing and they are destrying habbitat for the ranforest. palm trees and cattle raising were the biggest reasons for deforestation.
Well the Orangutans aren't exactly well off either... nah I get where you're coming from, just try to check on ingredients, and if it has palm oil, try to at least use it less and if it says vegetable oil, give the company a ring and get them to go into further detail as to what 'vegetable' it's from.
Yey, people replied Yeh and Unilever the company who own Dove and loads of other stuff are working on getting all their products using sustainable palm oil by 2012 Ofcourse, thats also when orangutans are said to be on the brink of extinction, even more so that they are today. xx
