Let's face it: Protests don't do much!!!

Sure, they are a great show of force, help catalyze energy, and give "our crowd" a ritual to release some negative energy(or are they Shadow projections. . .?). But the bottom line is that they are not the most effective way to go about creating change!!!

To save you from a long, boring, winding post, might I just point you in the direction of the ONE book you need to read, study, and internalize to be an effective activist: Rules For Radicals by Saul D. Alinsky.

I won't even tell you what it's about, just seek it out any way that you can.

that's ridiculous. Lets just sit around and be compliant. Nevermind freedom of speech.

That's not what he's saying. He is saying protests don't do anything... so clearly we must riot.

I predict a riot... I predict a riot... (music tune emoticon)

I used to be firmly against riots in my younger days, against any kind of violence... but at this point, playing nice won't solve much.

Nor do riots to be perfectly honest. Unless it's a riot with a specific aim (free lab animals, stop corporate meeting, prevent building of megastore) it's not gonna do much aside from alienate people. Protests can do a lot.

Protests are not only for your voice to be heard for the government. Protests make the news and generally try to convince the public your view, or at least show a lot of people want something done for whatever you are protesting about. If you get enough people with you THEN you can get something done.

It doesn't show that you can voice an opinion in a civilized manner though. So in the end you're frowned upon, and its not going to get many people on your side other than some college students. Riots usually end up causing rights being taken away or just stricter police/rules. When you got the right to protest, don't blow it away.

Protest is the only way to express freedom of speech without hurting anyone.
