I am currently teaching myself piano, but more recently am starting to play
synth-strings and and other sustained keyboard sounds.
Ive always wanted an organ, but ive only got this cheap paice of crap keyboard and an out of tunes piano :)

What kind of music do you play on it?
Ive been looking for new music to learn on the keyboard but cant find many good artists. I just learn lots of Dimmu Borgir songs- symphonic black metal, they have some excelent keyboard and piano parts.

had a vox jaguare once, played it through my paia modules i had then. can't say as i ever got real good at it. this was back, just before off the shelf personal computers became available, even as kits.

(never had formal keyboard lessons. i'd learned brass in gradeschool and was in high school band. it was much latter that i got this thing. and taught myself such as i did. from chord spellers and other teach yourself kinds of literature. it helped that i had learned to read sheet music in school. i DO wish i had something now to practice on. even if i never did anything else with it. wish wish wish, well i could go on, but enough)

i love keyboards, especially organs and synths. pianos i can take or leave. and everybody but me plays a damd guitar because the put on a show, even if they can only just barely be played.

of course i just like having lots of gizmos to play with too. right now i ain't got diddly. wish i could spend the price of my next eye exam on getting a keyboard midi controller of some kind. maybe next year.

I've got an ancient Hammond organ, can't play it well, but the chord keys combined with some quick lead keys does sound sweet. Someday I'll invest some time into it.

update on my previous post, i've since found a number of lovely freeware sims on the net, i still don't have physical keys to plug through midi-adopters into i/o on the computer. but something called studio 41 has all the knobs i could even phantacize at this point twiddling. it's an analog syth sim, and it will take midi i/o.

i've also of course got audacity for mixing down, a free single vst host and a plug of the inonic performer created by somebody called something like bathory-curts on from his website. it REALLY needs physical keys to do what i'd like to with it though. trying to play keys with a mouse is shere hell.

there's also a couple of other freebees i haven't opened yet. one self generates something called fractle music and the other, plays the pixels in an image as if they were sheet music.

i know this is almost completely off topic, but i thought i'd throw in that i'm no longer COMPLETELY expressionless musically.

(now all i need is someplace to upload and show off my crap/ i mean earth shaking compostions/ yah right)

I've played old Hammond and Thomas organs. The Hammond had the old Leslie speakers that rotated to make vibrato. The rest of the stuff I've played are cheaper like Casio and low-end Yamahas. Some of the vintage organs are neat.

The Hammond B3 was the driving force behind bands like Deep Purple and Steppenwolf.

No modern keyboard can capture that sound in my opinion.

i agree... after playing a real b3 with leslie, going back to any keyboard organ just loses the same feel

the korg cx-3 with a leslie is pretty sick tho
