Is there anybody who like to walk in socks, or nylon footed outdoors? I just never walk barefeet because I don't like the feeling to get in touch with the soil. Strangely it's just the opposite for me with socks. It's so smooth feeling for me to walk outside in socks. Many times when I come home home from clubbing I just take off my shoes and walk home sock footed. Of course when it's not very cold. During the daylight I walk not so often sock footed. When I do it I go to parks, no matter if it's grass or sandy or whatever soil, or rarely to a nearby shops. Surely people are looking strangely at me, but there is rarely any comment. BTW I am wearing almost always black socks. It's quite a rare sight to see other people doing the same, however recently I have seen a women in her mid 30's walking sockfooted here in the suburbs, probably heading to a nearby place.
Agreed. Kinda strange. Hey, whatever gets him off. I don't understand it AT ALL. I guess we all have "our thing" but that would never be it for me.
I'm totally opposite; feeling the ground underfoot is *the* reason why I go barefoot; I wouldn't even really mind wearing a 'closed' (from the top) shoe as long as it didn't have a sole. I wouldn't even want a hair-thin nylon between me and the ground! But to each their own, at least socks do allow free movement of your feet. A practical question though, don't your socks wear out awfully quick, and don't they get really dirty? I used to go sock-footed lots indoors before I started going barefoot, and even indoors I was always wearing holes in them, would imagine they'd wear through on the pavement in a few days. And I tried running out to the mailbox or the shed in the back yard a few times but I very quickly stopped that because even if it was dry weather lots of dirt would cling to the socks... pine needles, other small garden debris, even small clumps of earth. And if the ground was even a little damp the sock would soak it up immediately, being uncomfortably wet and accumulating even more dirt. I'm not criticizing -I'll never tell anyone what they should or shouldn't wear- but I just can't imagine it being practical based on my own experiences.
In my opinion: Sock-footed = Gross and impractical. Socks do not protect your feet, and they certainly do not prevent them from getting dirty. They are not as easy to clean as your own feet. And if you're not willing to wear footwear why would you want to wear socks when it is much easier to go barefoot? Also: on smooth surfaces you risk slipping and losing your balance. On rough surfaces you're likely to damage your socks so you might as well take them off.
:agree: As barefooting has become an important part in exercising my tactile sense (among other things), I wouldn't want to dampen it by covering my feet in socks either (aside from the practical reasons Myranya gave in her posting). On the occasions I have to wear closed shoes (the formality things at work which happen at times), I feel like part of my senses are cut off from the environment. Wearing socks for walking would be the same for me, as wearing headphones for enjoying good music, but putting earplugs into my ears, before putting the 'phones on... Just doesn't work for me, really. If it works for the OP - OK, let him. barefootedly yours, ~*Ganesha*~
to each his own, i guess. i absolutely hate socks as much as shoes. at least your feet aren't as restricted as they would be in shoes. i say ditch the socks and free your toes and soles.
Seems to me that walking sock-footed offers the worst of both worlds; not barefoot, yet without the "protection" of shoes.
I would NEVER ruin a pair of hose! I go barefoot everywhere. Get coal black, callosued feet but every now and then I believe you need to dress up and do the town. Depending on my outfit, I'll choose L'eggs, Sheer Energy or No-Nonsense hose (usually white or black) with fishnets that match my eye shadow and nails. Gucci or Prada stilettos. Versace dress and Tiffany bling. Why should these be reserved for women only? I cringe when I see Britney with torn fishnets. No style or class, IMHO.
I cringe when I see her do ANYthing. Anyway, "dress up and do the town" means different things to all of us I can see. For me, it's either clean and new flops or clean hiking sandals (Chacos are billed as a possible dress sandal, for any after-hike event.) Then, me being me, dressier shorts than I might work in. For uppers, it depends on the season, and of course, in our winters, the sandals would have to go, if temperatures are low, which they often are here.
I've never done the sock thing. To be honest, I don't own any socks. I've always hated them, for some reason. Before I started walking barefoot, I would wear shoes without socks. Then, I realized I could save myself the painful chafing by going bare. I love the feel of dirt, grass, sand, soil, etc., under my feet.
saw a guy walking his dog, the guy was in his early 20's no shirt, shorts and wearing socks which the soles were black. nice ... ruin a pair of socks instead of going barefoot
