If you are a hindu , you go through four stages in your life. 1)Childhood. 2) Brahmacharya: Young adult who maintains celibacy before marriage, and concentrates on studies/plans for future. 3) Varnashrama: Married life with wife and kids. 4) Sannyasa: As your youth fades and you go into old age, you plan to find enlightenment by renouncing everything (renouncing them mentally usually now a days). This is based on the principles of Dharma, Artha, Kama, Moksha. In order to lead a good life, one needs to follow Dharma (Hindu duties) , Artha : Gain wealth in one's life. Kama: Fulfill his duty as a human being and beget children. Moksha : Gain enlightenment at the end of his life. Some good hindu principles are: Ahimsa: Nonviolent attitude toward animals, reverence to life. (some follow vegetarianism for this reason). Satya: Truthfulness Asteya: Non stealing/honesty Brahmacharya: Practicing divine conduct by controlling lust. Kshama: Patience. Dhriti: steadfastness. Daya: compassion toward all beings. Arjava: honesty in livelihood. Mitahara: Moderation in enjoyment of food, entertainment etc. Saucha: Purity of Heart, mind and action. There are some good practices as a hindu: http://www.hindukids.com/learn/hindu_dharma/niyam.html and there are certain observances http://www.hindukids.com/learn/hindu_dharma/observances.html I like this site, it serves as a good introduction for what it means to be a hindu lol, even though its for kids.
Do Hindus need to wear the kumkum? DO you do prostrate always? And as I've read in the internet.. Cows are sacred: From the Mahabharata, Anusasana Parva, Hindus don't eat beef?
Hindus don't eat beef? http://www.gatewayforindia.com/articles/not_to_beef.htm http://www.hindunet.com/forum/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=46876&Main=11240 two interesting pages for you
I believe that "hindu" are not people. Hindu (hinduism) is a religion...Hindu (people who believe in hiduism?!?!?) lives normal life just like everyother person, beliving in a differnt religion. In america people call every indian person "hindu" (first of all there is no such thing as hindu). Also not every indian believes in hinduism.
There are "churches" and "worship services." Our "churches" are called Mandir's..or..like Tina said...Temples. It is hard to find two "Hindus" who are alike and believe in the same thing. Hindu is just a blanket term to describe the people who practice Sanatana Dharma which means "The Eternal Path." There are MANY aspects that make up the faith, so, your question is near impossible to answer with anything other than...."Hindus do what people normally do during the day, I suppose."
There's no such thing. To be a 'hindu' you have to accept the Veda as authoritiative, and the Veda says God is not only exists, but is the one and only true reality there is.
I am Hindu because my parents are..Thats what my parents wants me to become however, I personally don’t believe in any religions...I do believe in God but religion is human made. Different religious authorities are always trying to prove that their religion is better then others. To me religion is nothing more then a popularity contest...I believe in god by being honest, helping poor people etc. I don’t need to fast or eat certain type of food to impress god….. I hope this makes sense…
fuck.. i dont even know what that is. oh well... i know i dont have to wear it.. cept for mauli [sp.] i've been wearing one for half a year now at least, constant...
There was an atheistic branch that rejected the vedas as nonsense called Lokayata But it was destroyed... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cārvāka
