giant marigolds smell like pot, but aren't quite the same growth habits.

Tomatoes and sunflowers are pretty similar. I'm having much the same problems, as I want to grow 'something' right now, but I don't want to grow weed in my current location.

something else you can grow to get in the habit of knowing plants, and have something pretty an rewarding at the end - morning glories. But I don't think theyre anything like weed :)

beautiful plant, that, shares absolutely no growth habits with weed that I've seen. However, you do have a point, if it's taken in light of the words by Myamoto Musashi. "From one thing, learn a thousand." working with plants, any plants, will teach you the skills needed to practice with. Cultivation, pruning, water management, soil fertility, pest management, etc.
