I was raised Christian, I was a good lil' kid and went to church every sunday. But once I got to 14 I started to 'realize reality' (thats what I call it) and started to do some logical thinking. I'm not one of those people that blames everything on god, "That hurricane happened because theirs no god" you wont hear me saying stuff like that. Jesus died for our sins? Maybe. But if a person like me went to do the same thing in recent times, I would be called a nutcase. I simply believe that the story (Bible) was created by a few good people, trying to look after the future's best interest, set some rules (guidelines) to help stop the world from escelating to complete chaos, best way to do this? A religion! I think they went a little bit to far, as to the 'heaven and hell' crap. I mean if you do something that is against the 'Commandments' or 'Rules' you have sinned, and you are going to burn in the Torturous, fire littered, nightmare, we know as hell. But if you are good, and do everything you are supposed to, you go to heaven. Pshh. So does that kind of thought process make me athiest?
i really dont think there should be an atheist section, whats the point of a bunch of atheists gathering up and affirming eachother's point of view
The point is equality, the potential to gain knowledge and wisdom. This forum doesn't discriminate against theists. You're entitled to your opinion but it is warped and illogical. This forum isn't purely 'God doesn't exist' Atheist 1: I agree, Atheist 2: I concur, Atheist 3, Indeed, etc. To the OP, you're attitude towards religion seems to be agnostic at least and atheist at most, i can't tell you how you feel. I commend you for embracing reality; facts, truth, evidence. This is knowledge.
To acga5: it can be good to gather with people who have a similar view of religion, especially in a society that is becoming increasingly more religious. Also, not all atheists have the same reasons for being atheists, so it is intellectually beneficial for all of us to be able to come together and share our ideas. The free flow of ideas is essential to keep the mind free.
