A friend of ours who wants to ride along with us to the National this year uses medical cannabis (he lives in California) for his chronic pain. We already know that WY doesn't have any medical marijuana laws but wondered for his sake if anyone had any experience with the checkpoints and medicinal cannabis. As we intend to drive, we would prefer not to have to worry about transporting an illicit (federally) substance but our friend really does not function very well without his medicine. He intends to come either way but wonders if having his written recommendation and state registration card will help him or if he has to act like a common criminal and attempt to smuggle in his meds (or else go without entirely).

We've already told him we find it highly unlikely that he will have access to his medicine, but due to quite a few neighboring states allowing medicinal cannabis we didn't know if the WY troopers and/or USFS had a history of letting it slide. Thanks in advance for any advice or stories one can share.

(We in no way will take any stories or advice as encouraging illegal activity. We merely ask on behalf of a friend who uses this plant legally in his own state for medical purposes.)

I know very little about the laws but I would think from one state with the medical law would not apply to another state without some sort of approval

    My wild guess ;)
