Hey all, Why the heck is all clothing so expensive? over 100 bucks for a skirt???? 60-70 bucks for open back shirt? I don't get it, traditionally hippies do not have a lot of $$$ unless you were one lucky brother or sister. I am looking for new clothing because the clothing I have is going on 20 years old, and unfortunatly either they have holes and too many patch jobs to survive through another summer or I don't fit into them anymore. Can anyone give me any websites they buy from with reasonable prices? I mean I already don't have enough $$$ for the bills this month, but it would be nice to wear a shirt or pants without a hole in them. I am not spending no 70 bucks on a shirt nor am I spending over 100 bucks on a skirt or down below clothing... I do not have the time to make my own. Thanks, ~Musik~
All my clothes started out as whites from dharma trading in Cali...You could check me'n'JuJu's HipShop here on HipForums...our prices aren't nearly as high as other tie-dye websites, 'cept for the ones who do the mass manufacturing thing. http://www.hipforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=415
Buy clothes online? Pay for shipping? Maybe I'm cheap but all my clothes are from the thrift shop. I refuse to support the sweatshops and also refuse to pay more than the clothes are worth...
and you shall be blessed! I find all my Man's HARLEY, CONCERT & TIEDYE'S in Thrift Stores and 50% are still tagged! I chuckle at each one I buy. My Bigass Clothes are expensive so when I find something for me its a 2X Blessing!!! Step away from that glowing Screen and Box. Outside in the world is where its at....Really People! Love for all !!!! PR
ok thrift store shoppers, I gotta ask...Do any of you live out in the country? In my area, there is one thrift store and it's 30-some miles away. I've only seen one tie-dye at the thrift store & it was about a week of wearing from falling apart. While I admire that some of y'all are participating in the recycling triangle, I'm not sure why there were these comments about 'step away from the glowing screen & box' & 'refusing to support sweatshop clothing' plus the questioning of buying clothes on-line...I mean, come on people, most of the clothes I buy from Dharma are either fair trade or made in the USA. Do you know if musiklover77 was looking at commercial clothes or handmade clothing? Patchwork clothing makers charge quite a bit; they put a lot of time into their work & it costs a lot to live in the US. Please try to look with a wider viewpoint
Thanks for everyones input, I am pretty much dry for cash, still have to pay my rent, hoping that I can do that by the beginning of next week, and well, I have gained quite a bit of weight and I am having troubles loosing the weight and fitting in my clothing that I have owned for the past 20 years. I think I may have a thyroid problem, but I am slow to get tested for it. It runs in my family my sister and mother are already diagnosed. Anyway, lack of money and not being able to use the clothing I have now, I'm restricted to 1 pair of pants and a couple of shirts. I never remember spending so much on the clothing I enjoy wearing, because I feel that what you wear is a reflection upon who you are and what you are trying to represent. I think what it is going to happen is I am going to have to find time to begin sewing again, I have extra cloth I just need to find time. I was thinking that there were people out there that may sell some things for cheap and I would get a few things from them. I did like the things that you sent me with the tie dyes, I especially love the sun and moon representation on the one shirt, it was phatty, but I think I am going to just have to suck it up and hope that my body starts to adjust to my life adjustments and start to loose weight again I suppose. (I also quit smoking, drinking coffee, etc... so my metabolism is shot to hell right now.) Again, thank you everyone, I think you're all great! ~musik~
Have you checked out the new 'almost ready made' fabrics at Wally World? They have skirt 'fabric' what has gathers & trim already on it, you choose your length and sew a line or two. There's also a 'fabric' that has the stretchy tube top type stuff at the top and a billowy bottom, could be used for a dress on a small person or a top for a larger person...would be too cute for a mother-daughter matched set. Thought since you mentioned sewing & time restrictions this might be a way to add a quick piece or two to your clothes rotation.
Awesome thanks so much for the suggestion! Huh, I will have to look into that type of fabric and the prices. I probably won't get around to sewing until we move, which will be this july. So, I was looking for a quick fix, like Gypsy Rose has so many wonderful pieces of clothing, I am getting paid today, so maybe I will be able to save some money and get maybe 1 or 2 summer dresses Their clothing is awesome but expensive for me right now. As soon as I hit the lottery, I'm going to have the best clothing collection ever! I'm going to throw out all of my clothes I have now and start fresh! By Wally World did you mean Walmart?
You were checking the Gyspy Rose retail site? They are pricey. I don't suppose you are anywhere near Kansas City...It's a Beautiful Day has a lot of the Gyspy Rose styles at lower prices...they also carry Classic Imports, which is where Gyspy Rose gets some of their clothing (well, at least they used to...been a long time since I was involved in ordering ready-to-sell items) Yes Wally World is Walmart I'm beginning to wonder if the other posters on this thread are brothers or sisters...I've always thought it was funny how my hubby could always find suitable clothing at thrift stores(mostly jeans & shorts), but I never could even tho the womens section at thrift stores is usually 2-3 times bigger than the mens. Women just have too many styles, I think, and lots of the stuff in the thrift stores is for women who have way different tastes than what I have. We even worked in a free clothing store for a while, sorted thru mountains of clothes to give away...the teen daughter found all kinds of clothes that she loved, designer jeans & clothes to fit preppy looks & sexy looks & fashion girl looks & almost every look imaginable but there were rarely any of the comfy, colorful clothes that I like.
i wear a 32-36 in pants.. they dont exist at thrift stores... hell its hard to find that size retail...
HA! I used to be a 32-36, you can have all of my clothing! LMOA Yeah, retail & hand me down stores are hard to find any clothing for my body shape. Not that its that unique...but maybe I'm just difficult. I like to feel comfortable number one. Sometimes it's to small in the middle and to big in the legs where the crotch hangs really low or vice versa. Does anyone know where I can get cheap material? Any suggestions? What about patterns? Any websites you guys can offer?
I have got a couple of things from this kind Mama for both my Partner and my young son, and she will custom make the items for you at a reasonable price Handmade Kindness Peace
Go to www.google.com and type in Online Thrift Store. It comes up with a bunch of different links. The prices look good also. Try different search terms like online consignment shop.
yes, i will try that, Ya know I never even thought of doing that? You rock, sometimes, growing older is weird, not the young chicken I once was, quick on my toes! Thanks
