Or basically Kurt Cobain vs Layne Staley. This keeps being a near daily drunk or stoned debate between me and one of my friend vs my girlfriend and another of my friends over who is better. The question is who are the true grunge gods. Yes Nirvana in the general sense is because of how famous they are. But most people that ever listen to grunge will go through their Nirvana/Kurt cobain is god phase in school. But then the lucky ones get older and find the brilliance that is Alice in Chains as the true grunge gods. Layne's voice was 100x better then Kurt's, both Layne and Jerry's lyrics were better and they were musically more advanced, especially in the guitar skill of Jerry Cantrell vs Kurt.

But the point is to the stoner community, who do you think are better.

    Also:
Who was a better guitarist, Kurt or Jerry?
    Better live show?
    Better lyrics?
    Nevermind/Bleach vs Facelift/Dirt?
In Utero vs AiC's self titled?
Who would you rather smoke up with, Layne or Kurt?

Name your god and bleed the freak!

The cool answer it seems is to go with Nirvana, but I'm liking alot of the Alice and Chain songs I'm being introduced to.

Granted, Smells Like Teen Spirit is a very good song, but I just can't place many other Nirvana songs up that high.

Man in the Box, Here Comes the Rooster, Down In A Hole are all real good Alice in Chain songs.

    1) nirvana does not suck. over-rated maybe....but i like them.

i have to go with like the first 3 posters, i don't really listen to alice in chains and i've always been a nirvana fan, so my vote is to them/kurt. i might have to check out alice in chains though.
also foo fighters are pretty good.

i like the song "bloom" and "lithium" i think. i'm bad with names but there are plently of kick ass nirvana songs. and not just on the nevermind album.

kurt cobain is my favorite songwriter and musician of all time, so i'd have to say nirvana. the music wasn't as technical and the vocals went flat sometimes, but damn it, they had heart. alice in chains were an ex-glam band who were in it for the money (which is not to say they made bad music.)
