I was pre heating the oven. To heat a slice of pizza from last night and when I go to put the pizza in. The oven is on fire and it wasnt a small fire. This is the second time that Im doing or trying to do somehting and I cause a fire in the kitchen, though this time I didnt do anything but turn the oven on.
John was/is sleeping on the couch and I had no idea of what to do, besides turning the oven off. I just starred at it, thinking if I should throw some water in it or what. It eventually went out. I didnt do anything because I didnt want to make it worse.
And Im still hungry. I guess I'll have to use the microwave, even though I hate it.

What do you guys think could have caused the fire?

I don't know, maybe some thing was left on the bottom of the oven?...

But in the same vein, I had a huge fire in my kitchen recently too. We left piazz boxes on the stove from on night and the next morning someone bumped a burner on before leaving the room and the fire consumed the stove microwave and did alot of damage to the ceiling and floor before we got it out.

    It was grease.

DO NOT THROW WATER ON IT!

If It's a small fire, use flour to cover it. It will deprive the fire of oxygen and it will die. If it's a bigger fire you need a fire extengiusher with the letters A/B/C on the side.

And if it's a bigger fire, you need to escape.

Well specifically the C I think. That's for grease fires. Never throw water on a grease fire. You will make it spread.

    is it gas or electric?

    it could be grease
could be some spilt foods that caught inside the stove

    That's good to know.

The fire is out now, it just went out on its own.

Im now very happy that I didnt throw water in it.

I guess our oven needs to be cleaned.

I dunno, faulty wiring, or something left in there that was a little too close to the source of heat and caught fire. Or God was mad at you. One of the three.

    Is electric.

I thought it could have been food. John heated up some pizza really late last night. I always tell him to use aluminium paper so the food doesnt get in the oven, but we were both drunk, so I doubt he did that.

Either way the oven has been needing to be clean for awhile. I just never cleaned an oven before, so Im scared

We have no flour, no baking soda.

John ripped out the smoke detectors one night that he was cooking while drunk or that I was cooking drunk. I think I know how our lives will end

    Get it. I'm serious.

In a pinch, sand. Or anything to cover it that's not liquid.

You do have a fire extinguisher right. I mean I live on the edge, but I also believe in safety. :D

I dont think we have a fire extinguiser, but we might.

I'm cleaning the oven tomorrow, I use it all the time and now Im scared to start another fire.

What should I use to clean it? Regular cleaning stuff?

especially with babies in the house, you need to be fully equipped. But I have that momma paranoia about me.

yea, clean the oven real good. do not use a metal scraper in or on the oven. a baking soda and vinegar paste will be the safest to use, especially with a kid around

tkae the racks out, soak in hot water, scrub and clean, dry, put back in oven. make sure the oven is clean of paste and other debris. make sure no wires are exposed and such...

and get new smoke detectors installed

like i said, baking soda and vinegar paste...and water to clean the oven

and even if you have a self-cleaning one, you should still manually clean it from time to time, because it doesn't clean up everything

Thank you, this helps a lot :)

I'm gonna get us some baking soda and vinegar. I always thought about cleaning it, but never did because I really had no idea of what to use. I would just use any of the cleaning things we have there (that is the one cleaning thing haha).
