HELLO, I need help, i now doing mindfulness and zazen. And i got into a level which i am able to be aware to one thought only while other thoughts disseaper from consciousness. But the trouble is that i had paranoid schizophrenia attacks a couple of times in my life. And know when i am doing mindfulness i feel those sensations in the head which i recognize (from past attacks) are going to grow to a full schizophrenic attack if i will continue the practice. but i want to continue the practice becuase it calms my feelings.
And don't tell me to go counsling my local psychiatrist becuase
my local psychiatrist will probably tell me to quit the meditation (i know this because i know him) .
I need advice cause im really don't want to stop it. What can i do to prevent psychotic attack from happening and still continue the meditation?

You might be programming yourself to feel this way. Reality is based upon what you believe about it.

I suggest you continue and see if an attack happens.

Before you do that, I would tell your family or friends of your intentions. That way, somebody will be there for you if you do have an episode.

Hmm, that's quite irresponsible, Don't you think? I don't believed this going to happen, and i especially chose zazen and mindfulnes and not samatha or vipassana because this the most delicate unharmful meditation i could find (except those visualization meditations).

fuck the psychiatrist! most psychiatrists these days have almost no trainning in psychotherapy, only in throwing out mind candies. their mostly state sactioned drug pushers now. is it possable for you to find a psychologist who has trainning in relaxation techniques? (ask them what trainning they have!) don't see any therapist who will not educate you about these matters. it sounds from what you have said here is that your psychiatrist has no trainning in relaxation therapites. get a copy of this book. "the relaxation and stress reduction workbook," by davis, eshelman and, mckay. not having the means to talk with you face to face, i must be carefull in what i say here. this book will be a great help to you on your quest! the last chapter dealing with getting un-stuck is what you need to read right now, because you are stuck right now. i think you will find in the book you may need to add another relaxation technique to work with the meditation. you can order this book from amazon.com, barndsandnobile.com, and so forth. please keep us up to date on how things are going for you. i do apolize if my post here is crappy. i am dead tired, and need to go get some sleep now.

Thanks alot alot alot! I agree with you about psychiatrists, they can give you pills but in the meantime they had not got real solution to cure mental diseases most of the time. I will try to get psychotherapist according to your criterions. As for the book, that's more of a problem for me (because i am not working right now and havn't got the money) but i will try to buy the book somehow. thanks.

It would be irresponsible if you didn't do as I suggested.

Have people around to catch you if you fall. The nature of your illness compels many to self medicate first. 99.9% of you will fail.

While I'm sorry you've had bad experiences with the profession that treats this illness, most within it are really interested in helping people. Shop around later for another doc. Its going to be very important for your future to find one that fits.

I said it was irresponsible to ignore this sensation and continue on, to have someone with me when i fall is responsible though.

You mean blackcat666 advises are going to fail most of the cases. It is pretty disappointing to hear that.

    What do you mean?

Your disease is a life long one. No cure.

The importance of a doctor who understands you and your individual nature cannot be overstated.

While there are new medications all the time, nothing seems to work for everybody. You need to be with someone who isn't going to prescribe the latest wonder drug (that the drug companies twist their arms to pimp to the public) and then shelve you until your next appointment.

You're going to need interaction, and the ability to communicate what you're experiencing. Be truthful. And don't be afraid to make a phone call if you feel you're in distress.

LOTS of people have what you have. Don't be afraid to reach out to support groups or whatever. This is a burden that is best dealt with in a community rather than by yourself.

What's the sensation like? Can you describe it more in detail?

And who is that someone? Someone who is working private? Because my psychiatrist is suitable to your description.

    To dreamoftheiris

Well, it's very hard to describe what the sensation is like, the closest description i could think of is some kind of mental anxiety with the sensation that you are going nuts. and that you frequently don't know why you are doing what you are doing or why is that thought is coming into your head. And in a case of a full attack, you don't recognize who you are or the people around you following by the sensation of intense fear. fair enough description?

If you like this doctor, by all means stay. If not, you have a right to shop around for someone else.

But you're only 20, which means you're going to move around later, possible to other states. Doctors also pack up and move elsewhere or retire. Then you have to shop again.

Is your illness a result of injury or genetics? Anyone in your family like you?

I think it was a result of injury, but my psychologist told me i was born with it.

Nobody in my family has schizophrenia.

And thanks for the site, but i had already been in a support group but i felt bad each time i got back from there so i left.

I recommend less sitting and maybe a more Tibetan Buddhist approach including focus on a peaceful deity like White Tara.
