hmm, I'll do it like this Its always been Led Zepplin as a child... but recently, Small Faces, The Who, Rolling Stones, Velvet Underground, The Masters Apprentices, The Loved Ones, the list goes on... and on and this week its the Yardbirds... next week, who knows...
You have great, great taste. I'm especially impressed with The Small Faces, The Who, and The Yardbirds.
Steve Marriot was great. R.I.P. Ever listen to humble pie? I'm also a huge fan of the jeff beck era yardbirds. Too bad the page + beck version didnt last a little longer....
I agree with you there. For me, it has to be The Grateful Dead! We miss you Jerry! Our love will not fade away!
Ditto that, I got enough Dead sets that I could listen to them for a week straight and not hear the same thing. As for the topic it's hard to say who my favorite is but lately I've been listening to Dead, ZZ Top, and String Cheese Incident.
My favorite band of all time? Hmmm.... For the last 10 years IN GENERAL, it's been Ozric Tentacles. They are this weird, progressive, eccentric, space groove band, who are equal parts Steve Hillage and Gong, Joe Satriani, Paul Oakenfold, and Ravi Shankar... What an eccentric amazing little band... They performed their first ever "US Festival" gig during the recent Allgood festival, and were quite the "critic's darlings." They've been recording since at least 1983 (yes, 1983) and have 19 albums. Check out "The Hidden Step," "Spirals in Hyperspace," and "Jurassis Shift" for a good idea of the Ozrics sound...Ozric Tentacles are amazing and their shows are worth the admission price, purely for the laser show. They tour in the States every few years...Don't miss these rare opportunities for sonic uniqueness... For the last YEAR, it's been Radiohead. Thom Yorke and the boys write these amazing, sonically arresting songs about desperation, heartbreak, and human disconnection. They then assault you with bizarre feedback and studio effects, coupled with their intelligent, incisive political commentary disguised in aloof and elusive, yet intriguing lyrics. Oh I just love Radiohead. Total Rock Stars... Totally deservedly so... For the last MONTH, it's been Wilco. Jeff Tweedy writes these very tender, fragile songs about despair and then follows them with purely brilliant pop arrangements about buying drugs off of street corners. So American, so wonderful... I overlooked Wilco for way too long... One of the FEW truly important American bands... Jeff Tweedy is Dylanesque and prodigious with the pen... That might offend some of you old timers... But Jeff Tweedy is amazing... I'm one of those bitchy literature snobs, too... And Jeff Tweedy writes some amazing lyrics. Throughout the years, I've gone through phases... Zappa... The Doors... The Beatles... The DEAD... John McLaughlin... Miles Davis... But these are the three that are most important today...
If Phish was still touring, it would be Phish. My all time favorite band is Primus, but as of last night I really really like Colonel Claypools Bucket of Bernie Brains.
