I would just like to know what people's own experiences were, when they first started meditating, as I would like to start to hopefully steer myself onto a better path in life. Also, does meditation contribute to a "better" mindset overall? If anyone has any tips too, I would be very interested to hear them. Thankyah.
It helps with relaxation, but also makes you more aware. You can sleep easier, too. Also, my boyfriend recently started meditating. For the past 10 years or so he had NEVER remembered his dreams, but once he started meditating he has been. I think that is pretty awesome.
I no longer meditate, so I suppose I no longer have the need. Or maybe just the method has changed. Now everything is a meditation rather than just a special time in the dark. x
nice one, thanks for the replies. so i take it u'd all recommend meditation? i want to attain some higher level of inner peace and stillness than i have at the moment, would u say that's achievable? i'm kind of hyperactive and want to slow it down...hmm, i should start a new thread
Its possible. When you start sit down and observe your thoughts. Dont participate just observe. Then focus on one thing only. I use a constant sound. Let it be the one and only thing on your mind. Let it replace your thoughts, and stay that way as long as possible.
How long have you been doing it? And also, how do you find the 'you' of now vis a vis the 'you' before you started meditating
As wu chi or hun-yuan I need meditation with movement, I cant remove tension by just sitting there. In the Hun Yuan Tai Chi form, each movement flows into the next in an endless circle of energy your feeling the energy with body movement as it channels and brings harmony with your *focused* thoughts.. http://74.200.201.165/public/109.cfm try Tai chi, along with meditation it works for me, but Im not stress free no matter what I do.
Over 30 years. The process of learning to watch your own thought processes starts to reveal two different entities in one body. One is prone to emotion and impulse. The other is the higher self where still water's run deep. After you have realized this duality, you can start to identify with the higher self. This is where practice will make you perfect. x
Yeah, what he said. I also have meditated for about 27 years. After awhile if meditation is continued habitually then one gains confidence in what one experiences versus what one even thinks. A stable view or contemplation results. Sometimes that's called jnana. So one works in meditation with jnana and prajna, wisdom and cognition. That jnana and prajna doesn't mean one will look good at rituals and be all hippie dippie. But within one has become free form. Their inner vision has become unlimited. One is not really bound even by the system because at root, ones inner nature shining forth trumps even the hollow forms of religion. On the other hand one is no different from anyone else. One has not become superhuman. One has become fully human however. Since they have fully explored the human condition with their own lens. To me, those who have not spent some time meditating have as if gone through life without smelling salt sea air or making love. Ie., meditation is a human's birthright. We're lucky now there are so many teachers out there. They always talk about the merit of learning some dharma, of meeting masters and how rare that is. They call the West materialists, and yet we have all teachers from around the world flying here to teach us. Thus we must have some great merit. Of course there are teachers I would love to meet, in India. But never having set foot in that land I have learned all I need to know of tantra from real lineages. I recommend that to everyone is seek out real meditation lineages, the ones that have been around some thousands years.
30 years,....thats some time guys, i admire your perseverance, willfully too. I'm getting dragged kicking and screaming...lol
Yes ...Meditation can be calming, rejuvenating and restorative. When practiced regularly, it can aid in reducing stress, lowering blood pressure and increasing personal awareness.
