So, i rarely (if ever) remember my dreams, but this one has stuck with me. I know the imagery is too abstract to have just been thought up and taken at face value, but i can't figure out what most of it means. So here goes.

I'm in my living room, and its night time. Its mostly dark, i have one lamp on a table and a light on in the kitchen across the room, the light is low enough that there are shadows cutting the room apart. There is some sort of ghost-like creature/monster in the house. It doesnt seem to be made of anything physical, having no mass to it, its more like a cloud of darkness, with a very vaguely human form (2 distinct arms, and a head-like protrusion, no legs). it has no features except eyes, which are the darkest shade of black you can imagine, and glossy. It hides in the shadows, seeming to be afraid of the light. It will fade away out of sight, able to materialize at any time, in any (dark) place, and it always strikes from behind. When it strikes, it effortlessly tears its victim in half and sucks them into its darkness, consuming them without leaving any trace.
There is another one floating in the garage. It is identical, except for the eyes, which are lighter, a lightish shade of gray. It doesn't fade away or move, it just floats there in one spot, staring blankly off into space. This lighter one seems to ward off the darker one somehow, despite being comatose.
A friend comes over, within 30 seconds he is taken by the shadow. My mother is there, but she goes and falls asleep, uncaring about the monster (i think this represents abandonment in a time of need, the only symbolism i can figure out). Whats worse is that my two lights are getting dimmer and dimmer, and sometimes turn off without warning, and i have to rush to get them back on. Eventually they fade to nothing, and i'm left in the corner with nothing but a flashlight. I shine it on myself, occasionally catching a glimpse of the monsters face, shining the light at it only to see it vanish again.
It's a generally horrible feeling of dread, despair, and hopelessness at this unknown entity that can pop up at any time and destroy you.
