Uh. I think of responsibility in existential terms, you know. Not in a moralistic way, I don't think.

i'd think it means mop up your own mess and quit blaming your friends for buying you too many shots.

Personal responsibility???? I just blame Goerge Bush, the liberals and my neighbors for my shit. If that fails I blame my mother for being a jesus freak and raising me wrong.

No really personal responsibility is going by the wayside, but to me it means that I am the one who has gotten me to where I am today good or bad.

    Personal Responsibility

Responsibility is not a burden, it's a blessing

Today's subject is responsibility. Not social responsibility, which is a separate issue, but personal responsibility. When we take responsibility, we admit we are the ones responsible for the choices we make. We, not other people or events, are responsible for the way we think and feel. It is our life, and we are in charge of it. We are free to enjoy it or disdain it. No, we are not responsible for all that happens to us, but we are responsible for how we think, feel, and act when they happen.

Actually, I don't even try to stop my misplaced ressentment anymore.

I just let it chatter away. But I don't cling to it.

I've been accused for lack of personal responsibility one too many times.

    By my parents of course.

I'm sick of fucking hearing it.

    And here I am.

    Replying to this thread.

    Oh yes you do.

Sorry for the presumption. But maybe you INTELLECTUALLY disown them. But it's impossible not to misplace.

    Basic evolutionary ego defense-mechanism.

i'm not much of a resentful sort. i resent being beat up, belittled and otherwise ignored by my family. but that's in the past and i'm a pretty badassed person with a badass family (that includes the ones who used to beat me up, abuse, and ignore me). i resent that my father never wanted anything to do with me, and told me as much (what the hell am i supposed to do with a daughter?). that's pretty much it. i don't think those are misplaced, nor are they ignored or unaddressed. neither of those things are "to blame" for my choices. i'm fully aware of them. if i allow myself to make a stupid decision because of it, that's on me.

Right. That's not misplaced anger. That's all very legitimate.

I'm talking about more mundane things. Like cursing out the MTA when you're late, or something.

oh, no. really, i don't do that. i'm so super mellow about stuff like that. if i'm late, i shoulda left earlier. it's not a thing i had to work on or anything, it just went away for some reason. i think learning how to forgive myself for my fuckups made it way easier to just deal with it when i fuck myself up.

That's a good attitude. I'm not immune to kicking things in a blue moon. The physical evidence of misplacement.

i screw up so often that i had to get over it. i think it bothers people around me sometimes when they want to get a good rant at me, expecting me to fight back. but when i know i'm wrong, i say so. "i'm sorry" is not a difficult phrase for me. i mean, honestly, we can't be right all the time.
