So I have some fresh shrooms. I will dry them a bit and then put them in a jar with honey. How long will the mixture be good for???
It'll be fine for a couple years in honey as long as you don't leave a piece of mushroom material above the honey. Honey won't spoil. It may even last longer than that, but 2 years is the longest I've heard of.
Cool, thanks. But one other thing.. Im not going to store it in the fridge, im going to store it in the cupboard. Will this affect the lifespan of the shroom honey??
keeping it in the dark will probably increase your chances yeah. I have a friend who adds ginger and herbs to it. it smells so yummy.
Off subject but I once read somewhere that scientist found honey in an Egyptian tomb that was still good and it was like 2000 or 3000 years old. So if you put you mushrooms in it, I think they would be pretty much good forever.
Cool thanks guys. Last year when I had some shrooms I dried them out, but not 100% and so mold grew on them. But this time im going to put them in honey, and then I can just have toast when I want to trip- way better tasting
I would try to dry out the shrooms completely before putting them in honey. You don't want the mushrooms to leach water into the honey and make the whole thing rancid. Shroomery says you can store fresh shrooms in honey, but I'd dry them completely first just to be safe.
