The sticky should be removed as it is completely and utterly false. Seeds are genetically predisposed to be one sex or the other, using a MH light or running a 24/0 system for veg, or even having a slightly off environment in your space will have no effect on seed male/female ratios. As seeds are predisposed to be one sex or the other, for the environment to have an impact would mean that a plant would need to completely reverse sex. The only impact the environment can have on ratios is with hermies.
i just finished reading the works of george cervantes, and apparently having high nitrogen and lower potassium levels in the first two weeks will lead to a higher ratio of females
Jorges Cervantes is full of it, always has been. He jumps on bandwagons and then backs out a couple years down the line. Remember the 24/0 light schedule? The amount of arguments he caused on forums all over the web was unbelievable. On the one hand you had the growers that KNEW the 24/0 light system was best for veg, on the other you had the people that had read Jorges' article and had never used the 24/0 system. What does Jorges say now? Jorges first got onto this BS after misinterpreting a DP (dutch passion) article. They were experimenting on the environmental effects of artificially feminised seed. Next thing you know and all these different enviromental effects suddenly have an impact on normal seeds too, this was everywhere on the web at one time, and many of us spent many hours arguing sense into people. Things like... a good grower will get a higher ratio of females... is complete rubbish. There is no way that the environment could be allowed to play a part in the sex of a plant. This would be detrimental to the point of extinction. I've got to be honest I don't read Jorges 'works' any more. How does he explain how a higher nitrogen level will cause more fems? In fact why would it only cause more fem's? Why not all fem's? Very hit and miss, even if it were true, don't you think?
hmm. but you must remeber that a plant doesnt show sex until a sertain point. obviously its gender is implanted genetically, but there may be some space for alteration? plants can be made purple by both genes or temperature, so maybe sex can be similarily affected?
