I believe that there won't be nearly as many naked hippies running 'round in WY as there were in Arankansas. Could you get to know folks around here please before you start in on trying to find sex? I find it very offensive to see a post such as yours, especially since I go to Gatherings for the Spiritual & Healing aspects. Free Love is NOT the same as free sex. & BTW-not sure if definitions have changed in recent years but generally speaking, a Bliss Pit is a Fire which does not have a specified purpose like for cooking or for a sweat lodge.

As we all know .....they come from all over in seeking (whatever they think they are looking for) The Great Spirit ..I'll use this direction for now .....strange ways of gathering folks When we seek .....we usually find....but not all can see it When your put all those coming to gathering for many many reasons..... kinda bit confusing at first...... Then the 'magic' happens for those who looked a bit further beyond their own desires usually receive 'gifts' An goes to share those 'girfts' with others in search of So who's to say the 'reason' was why we think we are going to gathering this is only a surface thought....what really lays deep within.......only the Great Spirit seems to see ... Back in the hippy heyday, "making love" was a euphemism for sexual intercourse. Some people still use it that way. Over the past few decades, the establishment has effectively hammered "sex is bad!" back into the heads of people both young and old. The term "free love" was usurped in the nineteen sixties into a meaning that (in common usage) included promiscuity. This new definition was very upsetting to the establishment of that period, but as I say, it appears to have been mostly vanquished. Personally, I'm very much pro-sex. When consensual and between adults, I find no shame in it whatsoever. Not even a scrap of it. Further, I don't agree that expression of sexual appetites is disrespectful to women. In fact, slim5013 didn't mention a word about women/gender. I wish sexuality were not a profanity. I wish we could evolve into a society where, I don't know, maybe scatology (poop talk, etc) could shoulder the entire burden of being contemptable in speech and thought. Better still, violence could take sex's place in being viewed as hateful, undesirable and disrespectful to women (and everyone else). Imagine a place where killing people is seen as distasteful and immoral, but human sexuality is considered a positive, shameless part of life! Actually 'Free Love' also meant & continues to mean 'caring without expectations', also known as 'unconditional love'. In a world where sex & violence are often combined,I feel that it is neccessary to make a clear distinction between 'Love' & 'Sex' For many today, sex is little more than a tool of manipulation; some people hook up without caring for their partners at all & I think it's very sad. While the sexual revolution of the 60's was needed to gain freedom from the old hang-ups, those hang-ups are gone today. What we need today is a revitalization of true Free Love; caring about people because they are, caring about the earth because it is... For the past couple hundred years, free love has referred, most commonly, to concepts of marriage and related rituals/legalities. As I said, in the late nineteen sixties, it became better known as specifically a call for sexual promiscuity. Some research on the subject will likely be of interest to many readers of this thread. I like your own personal definition better, although your referring to it as "true" Free Love paints you (by my own perception) as an absolutist, unwilling to accept the potential validity of alternative (or in this case, mainstream and literal) views. I find that position at odds with the hippy mindset with which I'm familiar. However, this only goes to show that we may see things differently and still share enough similarities to get along. Newage, Generation ME hippies aren't exactly the same as the freelove peaceniks of old, but for the most part, I believe they mean well.
