I noticed this the other day when walking by how big stores like Walmart and Target are. I mean I know this isn't new but, really, they're monstrous. Like 30 foot walls all around. Cameras (turrets?) and thick cement walls. I just figure a good rule of thumb is that if a rocket launcher round couldn't destroy a store then it is way too big. Or even a tank shot. Just throwing it out there.

I spend most of my free time these days trying to stop Walmart or any other mega-store from ever being built in my city. God, those places are horrid.

Have you ever heard Henry Rollins talk about Wal-mart? He's hilarious.

Yes! Down with low prices! Down with a large selection of affordable items! Down with rural employment. Low prices and employment are for the oppressed! I'm sooo "anti" and "cool" and "intellectual" it stings...

Target seems to be pretty good about giving back to the community, though.

People have been protesting Wal-mart but who is behind the origination most of these protests?
Target.. Kmart.. Albertson’s.. and other big stores.
    Why are they any better?

20 years ago they were bigger and more massive and put 5 and Dime, Ben Franklin and all the other littler guys out of business.
So they are mad about getting beat at their own game? So sad…

A lot of the other smaller merchants where I live are jerks they only hire their relatives if they have to hire someone not related to them they pay them minimum wage with no benefits. They won’t return broken stuff and they are rude to people like me who don’t spend massive amounts of money at their store. So why should I buy the same exact Chinese junk from them instead of Wal-mart for double the price.

I hate Wal-mart but I also don’t like all the other capitalist jerks so why pay more?

They built a Wal-Mart up here about 7 years ago...
dug up an entire side of a mountain for it.
2 weeks after it opened, 1/2 that mountain fell on top of it.
    Go figure.

If I have to, I go with Target... I just wish it wasn't so... RED.

We've had a Wal-Mart here since they first came to Canada. Now we have two. I personally don't have any issues with Wal-Mart, other than most of their employes are rude and ignorant.

Even though I support smaller stores, I support my wallet more.

I hear that everyday from customers while i shove their cheap crap into a cheap bag
    it is an excuse

one that alot of people use including me
    but still

for me it's either work for wal-mart or go to jail
two more pay checks and i'm walking out
once my fines are paid im never stepping foot in a wal-mart again

Some argue it matters little how much of Wal-Mart's new "green" awakening is true and how much is PR hype, because the rhetoric alone signifies a huge shift in attitude as environmental consciousness goes mainstream. Environmentally, I really believe it wants to do the right thing and improve its reputation on par with that of Target. Its stock would be worth 5% more a share, translating into an additional 10 billion in market capitalization.
