I grew up listening to all the classic metal Motley Crue,Poison,Kix,Cinderella, bon jovi, acdc, triumph, ratt, quiet riot, whitesnake, twisted sister, judas priest, skid row, ozzy, van halen, autograph, scorpions etc etc.
I have always been a lover of classic rock(music of the 60's and 70's). In the mid 80's, I started listening to Metallica, and I was liking the stuff I heard. Actually, I think it was MTV that introduced me to my first Metallica song, ONE, you know, the video with scenes from Johnny Got his Gun. So I got the Justice album and then bought all previous albums from them. I was at KOMP 92.3 here in Las Vegas one day in the mid 80's to pick up something I won, and I had briefly mentioned Metallica while inside, just as the manager was walking by. He asked if I had a few minutes and he asked me into his office. We then talked for about 30 minutes wether their radio station should start playing Metallica, as Metallica wasnt getting any airplay on any station in the Vegas area. I told them I thought it was a good idea as the band was gaining popularity at that time, but I also said that they shouldnt get too crazy and play some other tunes from similar heavy metal acts of the time. In other words, what I said was to play a Metallica song or two and just see what kind of response you get and then take it from there. Well, I had to open my big mouth, as ever since the 90's and up to now, KOMP is Las Vegas's heavy metal station. Every once in a blue moon they will play a Floyd or Zep song, but that is about it. So I pretty much stopped listening to them, and thankfully there was another station who came on the air in 86 who's format was just classic rock. I still like the old Metallica and yes, the new Death Magnetic album(thanks for waking up again Metallica), and I like a few hair bands of the 80's such as Dokken, GnR, Ratt, etc. , but I cant stand a lot of these bands of today. Many sound so alike with guys who cant sing worth a chit and they think they are great if they can string a few power chords together.
honestly.. LSD.. lol i was tripping my balls off, and my buddy put in Dimmu borgir, and cannibal corpse.. it was such an awesome trip, and that is was sparked my interest in heavy metal.. before that i always like metallica, ozzy and similar bands.. but the melodies and sounds from death/black melodic metal can be like pure bliss otherwise it can just sound sick
Heh... I rember sitting countless hours at my best friends place where we listened to his fathers cds and watched his music videos at their computer ^^ I think that Judas Priest-Breaking The Law or some Dimmu Borgir was first i heard... Or then Iron Maiden-Run To The Hills ^^ I digged it and still do ^^ Once when his dad gave me a ride to town we heard Dimmu Borgir on pop radio and laughed our heads off XD
^Awsome, I want to go to Estonia and listen to Dimmu on the radio lol. Thr first peice of metal I had ever intentionaly listened to was Dimmu's song 'for all tid' After that I was instantly hooked. Actualy that was the first song I ever downloaded.
Well it has happened only once XD Nowadays i listen to radio only when im taking a bath as it has radio in it... It only has on radio channel though and it plays mostly trance XD There is one metal/rock radio in Estonia but it doesn't reach the place where i live so you can lisen to it only near Tallinn... Dimmo owns anyways
I was introduced to metal sometime in high school, when I was going through the whole "finding myself" thing...ya know...finding where I fit in. Well, then all the "cool kids" were listening to rap/r and b/ pop, so of course I did too. Well, eventually I branched out, made friends with all sorts of people, and there was one guy in particular who turned me on to metal, and I fell in love with it. I started out listening to metallica, white zombie, rob zombie, slipknot, pantera. I love metal!! Never liked pop or rap ever since. I consider myself saved
I got into Metal because I got tired of that rap stuff. Couldn't take it anymore. I love the growling and screaming vocals, that's what grabs my attention.
At one time I got into hard rock and rock music in general. There were bands like Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith, AC/DC which all had something to do with heavy metal as well. Then I discovered Iron Maiden and started to like it. Though I mostly listen to blues-rock and 70's hard rock it's sometimes fun to switch over to heavy metal. After Maiden came bands like Black Sabbath, Van Halen, Poison, Twisted Sister, Warrant etc.
i got into metal through friends, most of my mates play an instrument and i slowly got into metal through listening to them drum or what ever, started with real heavy shit first like Necrophagist, nile, origin etc... then kinda went back a few steps to maiden, slayer and sabbath
well my dad listens to old rock and metal. at first i started listening to rap and shit but then listened to metallica. the first song i heard that i really liked was either for whom the bell tolls or One. immediatly started listening to metal. right after that i went to a metallica concert
