what do you think it means to have an open mind? do we all have one? if not, where do we get one, or how? why would we want one?
An open mind is needed to learn new things,and to be able to except new ideas,thoughts etc.Without it,one tends to remain stagnent in life,as well as any endevours.How do you get an "open mind"? Let yourself be open to learning,be curious,and learn to question things.
Yeah, a closed mind thinks it knows everything already...there is just no space there, no room left for any new information or revelation to take hold. An open mind says "I will listen first and see how this sits with me before I make a judgement". Plenty of things sounded strange before they were actually proven to be true. Closed minds hold all the rest of us back way too much...
I belive that openness to an idea depends on the messenger.. if the messenger is reliable and current.. if the idea can stand on merits and proven abilities to handle the responsibility of the discissions made.. or the idea to manifest.. making a qualified judgement for or against the arguement..
well, basically if you present your ideas with a well balanced argument I guess you can have a good point, but it doesnt mean it's right. No-one can say what's right and what's wrong, that's just an opinion based on your values. it's all relative.
yes I knew that.. are you trying to draw me in jester.. One only has it's self to ollow.. what you decide for you self after investagating the baises of the idea and how it's communicated to you.. how you preceive it and comput it..if it had any connection with your own view or an abstract thought that has no foundation.. presentation is everything.. but I belive in GUT reaction and our connection with a higher scorce to show me indications what what I should put stock in..
truth is the answer to all the questions.. sorry bout the misspelling but here in the old hippies forum we forgive such petty details.. it's the message that's important not how ones spells it... the point being that one has to able to belive what is being told to them..your mind is open to recive the idea.. but has the wisdom to agree or not.. in order to understand the the idea. it's up to you weather you want to retain the knowledge or let it go.. you can be open to different views.. but it's up to you to use it or not..and if you pick on my spelling I wont respond to you.. it's imature..
to say no would mean ur not truly openminded.... if everyone was truly openminded.... we would have nothing to argue about... becouse we would all be like "yeah..... well that could be true"..... im not sure what my point is..... but i think its something like...... can u really say to yourself...... anything is possible? could you say...... when those terrorists did what they did on 9/11 ..... can you say they had perfect reason to do what they did?..... becouse in there eyes..... that was truth..... you cant say one truth is right and all others are wrong...... or that would be closed minded...... are your openminded? -------------------- Open minded doesn't preclude the ability to form your own opinions and ideas. To me. it's the ability to share ideas that are new or opposed to your opinions and from that possibly change your previous views (or realize your opinion was right for you all along) A reasonable, rational exchange of opinions and ideas, to be open to the fact that there may be room to change the ones you have. Because it maybe the truth to someone else does not mean it has to be yours or that it was right. Murders, rapists, pedophiles, spousal abusers...and on and on...have their "truth" too, but do I share their opinion or believe its a right one? Hardly.
Each person will have their own perceptions of what is presented to them. Those perceptions will be based on what they have percieved previously. An open mind does not mean you should percieve that everyone is right or wrong, an open mind would mean to me that I would be willing to look at what is presented from every angle that I have available to me, I will then decide if I will invest in it, or not invest in it. Our perceptions change as our lives go on and as we grow, things you would have shunned at an earlier time may seem perfect for you now, things you would have embraced earlier may now seem irrelevent. I do not know what a person such as Hitler had going on in his life to make him the way he was, all I can do with something like that is to trust my faith that it is being taken care of how it should be. We all have a path in this life, I believe the beginning and end are scripted but it our free will that determines the journey, we are sent what we need to make us feel and think, but what we do with those thoughts and feelings is up to us. teepi P.S. Some of us are good spellers, some are good at other things. I never graduated high school, does that make me less of anything??? I write the data down as I receive it... I am but a vessel and live in a different level of consiencessness as to say I think about things in a different light.. I judge from my past experiences .. like if I grab a hot skillet n burn my hand.. my hand wont be so willing to grab the hot skillet again.. I don't think we could ever be totaly openminded or we'd never get anything done.. we'd change our minds all the time.. that's why we have intuition .. it's built in..
yes it's all an illussion but we're here to learn a lesson and untill it's learn't we'll just have to keep coming back till we learn it.. the illusion is of our own making and we all agreed to be part of it.. we chose our paths and we must walk down them.. we sometimes get sidetracked.. but we usualy find our way back..we are all in this together..

I belive knowledge is the key to everything.. know about the thing in question..know it up close and personal.. inside n out.. be able to make a conciouse effort to be open in and retaining what you have received and conveying the message as you have preceived it..if you can only di-scect the message and pick at it.. your not ready to receive the knowledge..
at least I still can think.. I survive the 60's.. it amazes me that I still have a brain cell left.. yet here they are bouncing around in my brain..being a student of life and a writer by nature I keep a mental record of past experiences and apply them to present day issues..
I have a question for you all. How many people can truley say you have an open mind? Peace will never work. Stop trying now. Still got an 'open mind?' Even to that? I'm open minded about MOST subjects. But that is one thing I am very pig-headed and closed minded about. If people comment hat peace cannot work, they're right. Not with that attitude. Tell me what you think, please.
