It's not stupidity it's failure to think and ask, and instead focus more on short smart ass replies to things in an attempt to be cute/witty.

Depends what the career is though. I mean, we think very easily nowadays of the "professional celebrity", as oppose to the famous actor or famous artist. The celebrity just exists and is on television or in magazines, so we don't question what they actually do.

Obviously, ideally they'd all be dead from starvation due to failure to actually do any kind of a job, but certainly I think those who are just famous, rather than being famous for anything, do deserve to be "scapegoated".

Someone who's become famous as a byproduct of being really good at something, I can cut a bit more slack, because they've not especially asked to be famous or to be "popular with the people"; it's secondary to what they do. Also, frankly I'd probably turn right into Oliver Reed the second I got a smattering of fame and money, so I can't really judge.

Don't feel bad. I'd be a cross between Randy Moss, Eminem, and Howard Stern. To be clear, I'm on the side of the celebs. They're not role models to your children unless they choose to be. If they choose to be then encourage your kids to follow their teachings. If they choose not to be then encourage your children to learn from their mistakes.

Either way it starts with teaching and encouraging your own children so other peoples' impact on their behaviour is minimal.

The whole obsession with celebrities is a bit much. If i was one id go into self destruct mode and hope to be on the cover of gossip magazines for the next 10 years, thus all other celebrities would become uninteresting and would be grateful.

He does a job and earns money. What's wrong with that? To my mind, once people are looking solely to the famous for their role models, the battle's half lost.

I don't want it to sound like I'm just attacking the single-parent thing, but the rich and famous don't make good role models even if they're nigh on saints. The fact that most of us, no matter how hard we work, will not be rich or famous, means that kids are worshipping role models whose lives are unattainable. You can't aspire to something totally impossible for long without getting down about it, and then you're susceptible to the really bad influences.

I'm not going to lie and say I wanted to grow up just like my dad, but I do feel like my parents provided me with far greater role models than any celebrity ever could, regardless of their conduct in the media.

God, the ones who choose to be are so much worse. Do I want my kids being raised by fucking Tony Blair, Oprah and Montel? I'd rather they look up to Jerry Springer any day!

A parent is doing a shitty job at parenting if a child's role models are fucken celebrities.

Plus, no one chooses to be a celebrity... bands just get famous, actors gets their breaks, and boom... suddenly they're famous. I don't see how being on the media brings an issue of responsibility into it. The celebrities aren't there to educate children.

Sure. Parents aren't raising their children correctly, it's not a movie star's job to be a parent to millions of children.

Also I hear, "He sold out, or she sold out. Common Sense [hard for me to call a human being common sense but hey] sold out. Ice Cube sold out. Ice -T whatever. Now they are making movies."

    LOL!

WELL, that happens because they are human beings like you and me bent on improving their material conditions. Duh!

We expect so much from the wrong places sometime. [IMG]
