It doesn't look like much is going on, at least to me, but I am feeling some knotties in there. The back looks particularly silky smooth. Any input would be appreciated. About the washing, I am doing it every four days and I feel better after I wash, just it seems like I should be washing it a certain way to encourage it to knot up. I'm not running my hands through it, but it seems like everytime I wash it the top and back smooth out. (though there are a couple knots up there that are new.) So, how do you wash and dry to encourage knottiness? Also, if you use salt water, do you spray it all the way up to the roots? I keep getting it on my scalp and then it itches like crazy. lol Overall it has been fun to see what it does from day to day. I'm looking forward to a few months from now when there are more knots.
When you're drying your hair try drying in a circular motion, especially at the top of your scalp. Will help to knot it up.
My hair was about the same length as yours when knots started forming. Although I grew it out from being completely shaved bald and the hair has never known a comb. When you wash your hair use your fingers to twist and knot your hair. Then when towel drying, dry vigorously. I personally think it wise to go in both clock/counterclock direction. Anyways, my head is full knots and quite a few matts. Very few loose hairs. Although the last hairs that was on my head were my dreads that I backcombed a decade ago, so I assume my hair just knows how to dread and likes it. Good luck, 2 weeks is a bit soon but definately keep going. Very exciting! Btw, you have a pretty face. Cheers
What are you sleepin' in? A woolie hat would sure help short hair like yours. I learned quickly to keep the salt off my scalp, I use a sea salt spray after I wash my dreads, but only on my dreads. Kind of hard to avoid your scalp with shorter hair tho. Maybe spray it onto your palms then roll a section?
I've been wearing a bandana when it gets closer to washing time, and nothing when it is freshly clean. I wore a tam one night and it came off. I have tons of wool knit hats, though, and maybe a closer fit one would stay on better. Do you only use the spray right after you wash, or do you use it regularly? Thanks so much for all the feedback! You made my day Sangharyan!
awesome, natural is the way to go! Whenever I see people with short hair going natural, it makes me wish I had started sooner. But yeah, just try rubbing your scalp in a circular motion when washing and drying. There are lots of little tricks and things you can do to try to make it knot faster, but the only thing that will make a huge difference is time. You've got a long way to go, so remember to have patience and enjoy it...it's all about the journey!
Definitely wear a knit hat if u have one, a tam has alot more room in it that you don't need yet I wash my hair every other day, by wash I just mean soak and scrub my noggin. But ya I use the sea salt spray right after, before they dry.
You wash everyday! Wow! I thought I might be doing it too much at 4 days, but it gets "greasy" feeling at the third day. I will try out every other day. Do you use soap everytime, or just soak with water and scrub? I just checked out your gallery, and I would be very happy indeed if my dreads turned out like yours. How long did yours take to really get going? (I'm not in a hurry, just wondering.)
the salt spray u can do to your toors just rince after u should riunce it thru everytime soi u dont get salty yucky buildup it does what it shouldfdo in minutes then just rince it out
"washing" entails me filling my tub and adding liquid bonners tea tree. Just soakin', I only really scrub my scalp around the dreads. Im less then 2 months with mine. I initially did nothing at all but my hair is poker strait, dosent even hold a curling iron. So I backcombed just the top of each section. Other then that just twist rip and rollin
